I guess they see WN's success with codesharing and need the revenue. But B6 is acting like a legacy carrier more and more it seems...

The huge fourth quarter loss at B6 certainly resembled a legacy airline's P&L statement. 😀
 
JFK is the perfect airport to seek alliances at with major international carriers. A very good move for B6. just my thoughts........
 
I never thought they would try to code-share with other carriers. This should be very interesting.
 
so much for being a low cost. looks more and more like a legacy all the time.

JFK is a natural place for a code-share, so why not? Also, don't you think the int'l airlines serving that airport have been trying to get them onboard earlier? It's no brainer for JBLU and the int'l airlines serving JFK.

Also does not hurt both sides that Delta is starting a hub there...

Which international airlines? Do you think BA will play despite a deal with AMR? how about LH? Air France? I guess you could go with Egypt Air......

Some much for Dave loving you enough to one day buy big jets for you to fly. 🙄

If the additional revenue exceeds the additional costs, sure.

But we don't know whether that is the case. Interlining or codesharing is more complexity to what is supposed to be a simple operation (after all, they are supposed to be a LCC).

Just the thought of interline bag transfers will add a slew of time, energy, and costs. And that's once it's up and running and doesn't include the cost of infrastructure investment to make it happen.

And international airlines could also require some more perks for their customers, as codeshare partners often do. If B6 had to add galleys and serve food, do you have any idea how much cost that would add in training, removed seats, and catering?

This would be a serious move away from the model they were founded on. Potential revenue? Yes. Potential disaster? Absolutely.

During the JP Morgan Airline Conf call, Needleman said something to the fact (loosely quoting here) that "they" (meaning the int'l codesharing airlines) would have to bring/pick up the connecting bags.

Perks: If I was flying Envoy/First/Business Class over from Europe, I would most likely NOT connect on JBLU. I would continue on AMR, DAL etc. to final destination, so as to receive my perk(s), as it were.

The added advantage for JBLU is higher yields, they don't have to give their product away when so and so airline has "taken" "x" seats...

Food service...hardly any airline provides that now...(except some "snack" in First Class...)

Probably not a disaster, though some more complexities, agreed. But if they cannot handle that, shut it down...😉

There is a ton of int'l airlines serving JFK. And who cares if a connx pax comes off Egypt Air or El Al or Lufthansa, BA, AF...or whomever...you get the point.

The BA pax would most likely connect with AMR/Eagle. However, do you think that a BA pax would want to take a bus/taxi to LGA to ride Eagle to some cities, or go to JBLU? I certainly know what I would do, especially after having been at airports/flights for at least 12 hours to get to the East Coast...

Okay, a bit tongue in cheek, however, there are alliance carriers who could benefit from such an arrangement. Only time will show if anything comes to fruition.

Also, in the last 2-3 minutes of the Citigroup webcast from Mar 14 Needleman comments on alliance. (Gist of it: Several airlines have approached JBLU, higher yields).

This Cape Air thing makes sense because it involves an operation with one small carrier at one airport. Seems like ticketing and baggage handling could be set up in a pretty simple manner.

It may also help get B6's BOS "hub" on more solid footing. I don't know what the loads have been like at BOS so far, but this should help them grab new passengers, especially from NYC.
