Obama is not backing up McCain, he is trying to walk McCain back to support a limited engagement verses the full blown engagement that McCain is looking for. If Obama can walk McCain back, then he has a supporter.

I do agree that this is as much a political war as it is a physical one. I think if it were a rep in office there would be more rep support just as there is more support for Obama from dems. It's all politics.
 
How about simply using the fear theory?
Those jackasses in the ME have hated us for what? at least 75 years? and 75 years from now they will still hate us. Just turn Syria into a waste land, the rest of the jackasses will be scared to death of us and won't fk with us anymore
 
First of all no one, at least no one in power would ever authorize much less gain approval for such an action. I personally have no interest in supporting the whole sell slaughter of an entire nation. There are always death of innocents in war, how ever the idea of laying waste to an entire nation is not what the US represents. Even were it to occur the only thing it would stop would be those in what was once called Syria. Fundamentalist/extremists do not look at life the same way the rest of us do. I do not believe for one second that the extremists through out the rest of the world will rise up and attack. They only need to be successful a hand full of times. Look what a small attack on US soil did to the world economy. Can you imagine what would happen were several attacks like that to occur around the world? I think there are many other issues with this idea, far to many to list here.

We go in Syria, Israel and other nasty things are going to happen.

while my post was at least somewhat tongue in cheek, I do think if we are going to be involved there(which certainly seems to be the case) we need to be respected and feared there, nowadays we are neither..

I do not see how leveling Syria will accomplish that. We went into Afghanistan and Iraq, took out the regimes and how are we better off?

Look at the countries people are 'scared' of. People are scared of countries like N Korea and Iran. I think people are scared of them because they are unstable and bat chit crazy. no one is scared of the US, China, Russia or any other super power because they are more stable and the world knows that the super powers have something to lose. We do not want to destabilize the oil supply. We do not want to piss off an idiot holding a grenade in a crowded room. We know that Nukes are a last resort the crazy folks.... not so much.

No one is scared of us and I do not think taking out Syria will change that. If anything it will be worse for us because it will be the West sticking it's nose where it does not belong again and trying to tell sovereign nations how to run their affairs.
 
People like Muslims respect strength and power such as previous presidents have exercised. Obama is a paper tiger, Russia, China, the EU all have seen his hand for 5 years now.

How many dignitaries have been rebuffed at the hands of the foreign policy amateur?

You think our friends in AlQeida let these things go unoticed?

Muslims respect strength. That's a joke. Israel has won something like 7 wars with the Arab nations surrounding them and see how that has worked out. The fanatics to not respect anything they do not agree with. Does not matter the religious foundation, fanatics are fanatics.

Look at all the attacks on US soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. Hell, the shock and awe BS in Iraq worked real well now didn't. After that massive display of fire power the US did not lose a single soldier in Iraq .... OH wait. That would be incorrect.
