Kerry Drops Ball With Packers Fans

Was chatting about this one with the folks in the hallway including a very partisan Democrat from Wisconsin.

His opinion was that this was a MAJOR f**k up for Kerry. Failing to correctly name the shrine where the Packers play indicates that Kerry knew nothing of the area and simply recited was he was briefed upon.

I can hear the crowd now as he spoke.... OOOOOHHHHHH... HE DIDN'T JUST...???

Ok, I just have to weigh in here...This is just one Kerry screw up..do I need to post the number of Bushism's here? The best one is when Bush was saying how Gyno's should love their woman

True, and I raised that point with my friendly Dem. However, the concern that he had is that this does nothing but further the notion that Kerry is a wonk, out of touch with common folk, and one who just spews out what he is told in a briefing on the plane/bus prior to his stage appearance.

And Bush doesn't? I seem to recall when Bush was speaking "off the cuff" and said the war can't be won. Then it went into spin cycle with the "what I meant to say..." There are very few politicians who DON'T spew out what they are told in a briefing on the plane/bus ride to the appearance...not even the Crawford Cowboy.

With permission, this is what my ardent democract friend posted:

"I know, but this one betrays a lack of familiarity with a sacred American rite - watching professional football. Anybody who has grown up watching football just knows that the Packers play at Lambeau Field. By messing up the name, Kerry shows that he had to be briefed about it, and was either briefed wrongly, or misunderstood what he was told. The point is that he didn't just know it, which means that he doesn't watch much football, which means that he isn't like real people. At least that's the reaction many people will have at a gut level. Bush certainly screws things up constantly, but it's usually in a context where people think it's kind of cute. Kerry just comes across as being out of touch with the 'common people.' Damn. "

No, it doesn't mean much except to people in Green Bay Wisconsin and avid Football fans. If you asked the average citizen in Boston, Atlanta, LA, or any number of other cities where the Packers play, they'd most likely say "I dunno...Milwaukee?" Football is life in Wisconsin. FWIW, my wife, who is pretty up on what's going on in the world could not remember "Lambeau field". Does that make her "out of touch with normal people"? I guess I'd rather have a guy who screwed up Lambeau Field running this country than a folksy old smirking monkey who screws up the country he is running.

Also FWIW, I don't think it shows Kerry as out of touch with "real people" as Bush's daddy did when he was amazed that the actually scanned groceries at the register.

You're right, football is life in Wisconsin. Wisconsin was believed by Kerry to be a winnable state. I think that is a bit in doubt now.

You know...if Wisconsin was a winnable state and it's in doubt now, that doesn't say much about the people of Wisconsin..."I disagree with Bush's handling of this war, I think he's runied the economy, I think No Child Left Behind is a joke, I think that his idea for Medical Care stinks, I think that his plan for "ownership" of our Social Security will only serve to bankrupt this country...but at least he knows it's Lambeau Field, so he's got my vote" 🙄

Hey, whatever votes we can get, right? I think both campaigns don't really care WHY they get the votes.... they just want them for whatever reason they can come up with!
