Two Questions here, will try to make it short.

1. Part 91.119, Say Im out flying over a farm field or in the middle of nowhere, can I legally fly lower than 500ft, as so I stay a 500ft horizontal distance between objects?

2. Is there any regulation that says that you can not land in say a field, or whereever it may be as long as its a suitable landing location for your aircraft. Reason I ask is there is alot of farm land around me where I can fly low, and also land at, with the permission of the land owners.

Thanks

That's touchy territory. That's VERY touchy territory. Because you shouldn't be below 500 feet unless you're landing or taking off.

Heard of "erring on the side of caution"? I like to say "erring on the side of the FAA". Let's say something were to happen. An FAA inspector will show up and ask you what happened, why you did that, what where you thinking, etc. If anything, they'll hit you with FAR 91.13, careless and reckless flying. Thing of what the FAA will look for, and fix those first.

That's another thing with the FAA. Not that I'm talking bad about the FAA, but once you screw up, you're screwed. There's no such thing as double jeopardy with the FAA. Once you do something wrong, the FAA (under administrative law, not criminal law) WILL look for what else you did wrong (you were robbed while you stopped another crime from occurring, you'll get nailed for that crime). They can't arrest you, but they can violate you in any infraction of the FARs (it is an FAR violation, theoretically, if you're flying below the glideslope angle on an approach to land, and a nasty inspector can nail you for it if he were evil enough). It's a very interesting topic.

But I will say this about FAA inspectors. They're great guys, and I'd love to have their job. But know what they're looking for. I know it seems like a negative way to look at the FAA, since they're out there to help us, not hurt us. But this is to prevent you being made an example of.
