i don't know . but i can tell you that usairways needs portugese speakers and swedish speakers and also some italian since we start service to mxp in late may.

The last lineholder in the Italian base was hired in Nov 05. I'm not sure if they are hiring language speakers at this moment, but try applying anyway. You would probably have to live in the NY metropolitan area if you are on reserve since commuting is horrible, especially for newbies. Hope this helps. Good luck

Thx for reply.
Im starting training soon, so my question is how long does it
take to be transfered from domestic to international?
since im a speaker, would it help?
thx again.

There is no rhyme or reason on if and when they grant transfers. Put in your transfer to the Int'l base as soon as you get out of training. If you are language qualified and they need Italian speakers, you may get your wish!

Question(s) plz. about your EWR/PEK flt.(CO's Longest, I think)

At almost 14 Hrs. How many Pilots/Fa's make the trip ?

How does both groups rest ?
Where do both groups rest

I could see "3" pilots making the trip(2 captains..1 F/O) with 1 pilot constantly resting, but how would they work/rest the F/A's

Thanx, in advance

The same way they do that at all the other airlines with 14 hour flights: Pilots do it exactly how you suggested. Flight attendants complete the first service, then subtract that from the time until the morning service and divide it among each other. Probably take 3 breaks. (there will be designated flight attendant crew rest areas where they can sleep)

Under FARs, you can use a 2 man crew up to 8 hours of flying time, a 3 man crew up to 12 hours flying time, and a 4 man crew beyond that.
CO's 777's have bunks behind the cockpit for crew rest. They normally block 3 or 4 Bus Class seats for FA rest seats.
On the 767, the crew is supposed to have a J class seat if the cabin is not completely full with rev pax. They have priority over non-revs for the first open seat in J. The FAs have their own row of rest seats in the back somewhere.

We staff the EWR/PEK flt with 4 pilots and 12 FA's. The pilots do 2 on 2 off flying in their "coffin" crew bunks right behind the pit. The FA's get 4 BF seats (10 D,E,K,L) and the last row of coach on all flts over 12 hrs.Crew rest goes in seniority order for the FA's, except for the ISM(purser)who can leapfrog seniority on a "as needed" basis, but they tend to be senior anyway since PEK is one of the most senior trips. Some FA's actually like to lay out in the last row.We are waiting to get crew bunks retrofitted on our 777 fleet, a big sticking point in our last contract. The new 777's will have bunks already installed. The service flow usually goes 2.1/2 hrs for first service,2.45 for 1st break,45 minutes for mid service. 2.45 hrs for 2nd and 3rd service and @1.5 hrs for last service and docs.

Hello

As of 04/23/2006,the last person transferred to Italian base was graduated in 04/20/2006.
As of 04/23/2006,the last person holding a line in Italian
base for the month of May was graduated in 04/20/2006.

That means,if you are in training now,you will have higher chances to become a line holder right away.Good Luck.

   Great explanation. The travelling public, as well as other ailine employees need to know thses facts. As a retired f/a its wonderful to see the CO does care about its crews and their need for proper rest - NOT Y seats that have no recline. Kudos to CA and your unions!

At CAL, our crew rest is still in Y on the 767 and 757 fleet on flights over 8 hrs 🙁 .Oh well. Whats intersting is that for the pilots on the 757/767, they used to get a FC seat , but now, only if it is "available",meaning ahead of any other non-rev (if there are empties up front). But the companies definition of "non-rev" gets murky when it comes to management flying on passes. So now they get 3 seats in Y(no curtain) if F is full. Not only is it not comfortable and looks awkward, IMHO from a safety standpoint, it's bad news. The issue is in arbitration now.

on usairways, we get crew rest on every european destination regardless of how long the flt is. and they better not even think of changing that .

Is that crew rest for pilots and fa's too, or just for pilots? Your European flights are probably blocked over 8 hrs anyway. Our fearless leader Kellner wants the pilots crew rest up in the cockpit on the 767. Beancounter math in effect!
