<_< ---- I haven't seen a 787 yet, but I hear Composite material is used extensively on it. The problem with the Airbus is that they tie a Composite Stabilizer to an Aluminum fuselage. They do that by mounting it to aluminum castings at the base of the stabilizer that are an integral part of the after-body. I don't clam to be a Structural Engineer, but it would seem that's where the problem lies! What are the vertical and horizontal stabilizers of the new B-787 made of? It is being touted as an all composite airplane.
