Don't worry, the DEA and prison system will lobby to keep it illegal.
Otherwise, their jobs are redundant and we can keep them on the payroll along with millions of pot smokers in jail.

"along with millions of pot smokers in jail"
Indeed. What a truly "proud" thing it is to have so many people imprisoned in a supposedly "Free" country for just what they have inside their own bloodstreams and bodies! While I personally believe it's foolish to ingest drugs...I sure as hell don't believe it's the the business of government to make criminals of those that do.
Honestly...just what kind of hoplessly incurable morons are such people as believe that any sort of Prohibition will prevent people from doing what they wish to with their own bodies? It sure worked great with alcohol during the last century, didn't it?
The ONLY other option is to reasonably see all this insanity as nothing more than "Imperial" government, seeking yet more power over the citizens they supposedly "represent". Nixon looked hard for ways to control and/or disrupt protestors long aga. The common element often found in such gatherings was marijuana. Suddenly, as if by magic, the Feds were all "concerned" with it and so people must be arrested!...Anyone can do the honest math here.

"Nixon also targeted the trendy, psychedelic image of illegal drugs, asking celebrities such as Elvis Presley (shown left) to help him send the message that drug abuse is unacceptable. Seven years later, Presley himself fell to drug abuse; toxicologists found as many as fourteen legally prescribed drugs, including narcotics, in his system at the time of his death."
Let's note that again folks = "as many as fourteen LEGALLY PRESCRIBED drugs, INCLUDING NARCOTICS, in his system at the time of his death."...but, but...ummm...we really, really DO need to be throwing people into prison for marijuana, don't we? Welll..unless it's directly SENT to people BY the government as part of a study, that is....In which case everything's completely legal, moral and just fine?

"Each month Irvin Rosenfeld goes to his pharmacy and picks up a special prescription, supplied to him by the U.S. government: a canister containing roughly 10 ounces of marijuana in pre-rolled cigarettes."
