My sister flew on Korean Air and lost four bags. They said that they will reimburse $20US per Kg. This amount is way less than what the contents are worth, and much less than what is reimbursed on domestic. I know that insurance could have been purchased, but many fliers do not plan for the worst. Does anyone have any insights or suggestions?

Unfortunately foriegn carriers do not come under the same regulations are US carriers when it comes to lost luggage. They can indeed only pay you $20US/KG under the Warsaw convention but good luck trying to get it. Hindsight being 20/20 yes you should have taken out travel insurance, that extra $20 bucks would have saved you a world of trouble but enough of the lecture. Here is what I went through with Air Jamaica who lost 1 peice of luggage on a nonstop flight between Florida and Montego Bay. ( I did have insurance but I also wanted my bag back)
Dec 14-arrived at MBJ, found that I was missing 1 bag and filled out the claim form with JM. "Bag will soon come"
Dec 14-17- Called the MBJ airport luggage office 3x daily. Was told "Soon come"
Dec 17-still no bag. Flew home.
Dec 18-Fill out travel insurance claim form listing contents.
Jan 2- recieved check for $250 for the luggage delay, $285.00 for clothes I had to purchase for my stay in MBJ and $697.00 for luggage and contents. Pretty good for only paying $28 for travel insurance.
Jan 2-Apr 30 2007- called (long distanced) from NY to Montego Bay on every Mon and Fri to follow up on the lost bag. No luck.
"we are working on closing out your claim"
May 1- Sent a nasty gram via DHL to Air Jamaica demanding that the settle up on my luggage claim.
May 15-Recieved a lost luggage claim in the mail. They wanted a list WITH reciepts for items in the bag. I don't know about you but I don't keep receipts for every pair of underwear I purchased.
May 20- Recieved a call for JM saying they "found" my bag. No explaination was given.
May 28- Bag arrived at the ROC airport where I picked it up.
Dealing with Korean Air should be easier then Air Jam but I still I hope patience is one of your virtues. Keep after them for a while before you settle. Your bag is out there somewhere!!! Good luck.

Explain this one to your boss.

Story is here

Once our captain disappeared, a passenger seated on the left side of the cabin began flailing his arms. Amy and I looked and listened while the passenger jabbed a finger at the window. “Just before the plane stopped, we saw a guy run underneath the airplane,â€￾ he said. “He just ran underneath and disappeared.â€￾
