If you are Hastert, by now you know how low-down things are getting when you can only get scandal-ridden former house speaker Newt Gingrich to damn you with faint praise by basically saying, "we're not quite as perverted as the dems." That's making a real good impression. So keep that line up, and please don't let the valiant Dennis Hastert resign. He will do his country a great service if he stays right where he is... for about a month. 😉

I shy away from these threads as they are full of hate and negative emotion, but I must say this is NOT a party issue. I do feel, however, the reason that so many democrates or liberals (as the right loves to call them) are angry is because for YEARS we have heard the republicans speak of the evils and immortality of the democrates and their abuse of power as the majority. Finally the GOP won the congress and after all these years, the republicans are guilty of the same abuses. How soon old Newt forgets that even HE pointed out that the GOP was now guilty of the same exact reasoning for ridding the Democrates. It was YOUR Pro-Reagan, God Bless America, America First, Contract of America Newt that said THAT...not some pinko commy Hilary loving liberal.

When I was a kid, my grandfather would tell me that those that talk the most usually have the most to hide. After this fiasco in DC, I have a better understanding.

The sad part of all of this is that there is a huge possibility that covering all this up was an attempt to keep a seat in congress. If this IS the case, ALL of us..no matter WHAT party you are for..should be OUTRAGED and heads should roll as this is CLEARLY an ABUSE of power.

But I will say this...I think that the GOP is actually helping to keep this "scandal" flying high b/c it takes the voters' eyes off of real failures in domestic and international policy. I don't agree with any of the immoral actions by either side of the aisle but I really can't give a hoot about them when compared to loss of soldiers' lives, loss of healthcare, increased poverty, increased wage disparity, lower taxes + higher spending, and a rapidly declining status in the international community and economy.

This is exactly what I think went on 2 years ago. The GOP kept this hidden and let the lunitic do what he wanted with only a warning to cool it. They wanted to ensure there was no "hic-up" that would pull Kerry as President.
As I've said, Bush won the election by the seat of his pants. And these folks saved his reelection.

Well, looks like Foley's ex chief of staff told Reynolds about these suggestive sexual e-mails to minors even two years ago. He states today he went to the highest authorities including Hastert, and THEY covered it up! My guess, around the corner was a PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

I don't believe it is ever right to abort a fetus. The difference between us is I believe in personal responsibilty and you don't believe in personal responsibility. It's easier to make it convienient to kill a baby than it is to live up to adult responsibilities. I believe children are a gift from God and in no case should we ever interfere with Gods plan. IT's not a "rightie" issue...I believe it goes much higher than that....even higher than you "Lefties" THINK you are.

Actually, I have a scenario I'd like to hear Aeroman and the other pro-lifers opinion on. Forget rape or incest. Let's say a woman spreads her legs for her man (who happens to be her husband) because they felt they were ready to start a family. They both want it so bad. And they are blessed to discover that the test is positive...you are soon to be in the family way. Man...it doesn't get any better than this. And...good husband that I am sure you are...you're right there with here as she heads down to the doctors for that sonogram....what will most likley become the first picture in the new baby's photo album. And everybody's happy and giddy and feeling so wonderful. Until the doctor and technicians get very quiet...the laughter subsides...and they are looking intently at the screen. Only they aren't looking at what's there...they are paying more attention to what's NOT there...namely - a brain. The baby in her belly...the thing you wanted more than anything in this world...doesn't have a brain. It's a condition called "anencephaly"...the brain has failed to form, and while the fetus has a heartbeat...the only think keeping it alive is your wifes body. As soon as she gives birth, and they cut the cord - the lack of a brain means it won't even know how to breathe on it's own. Here is a picture of what the medical community lovingly refers to as a "monster".Now...it's not a threat to your wifes physical health. But what about her mental health? Should she carry that to term? I mean it's only 6 or so months that she'll have to deal with knowing that the baby she's carrying is all but dead. What's your stance on that?

I can tell you what my stance is, because I've lived that exact situation. Trust me, I wouldn't wish anyone else to have to face it either. And I apologize for a little rant, but Aeroman's flippant "shouldn't have spread her legs" comment makes it sound like the only people who get an abortion are irresponsible people. Many aren't. In fact... in a good Christian world, you should teach your SON not to utter the words to a woman "If you really love me, you'll do it" when it comes to the spreading of legs.

First off I'm sorry for your loss. It had to be extremely painful and hard to deal with.
One thing I've learned during my life is God never gives us more than we can handle.
As I said in a previous post I don't believe it's ever right to perform an abortion. I can see your view as to why you'd want to but I disagree with it. My experiences are that God works in mysterious ways and performs miracles when it seems like all hope is lost. Doctors told my mother she should have an abortion because I was going to be born a disfigured baby. Her faith saw her through and by Gods will I was delivered as a normal healthy baby.
First of all I have seen the exact situation you speak of with people who use abortion as a form of birth control. They feel their pleasure is tantamount to the repurcussions of dealing with their risky behavior but they do because it's so easy to do. My opinion is that is just wrong and I'll never agree with it.
Lastly in a perfect Christian world you would teach your DAUGHTERS not to say, "It's okay, I'm on birth control."

It doesn't surprise me you would advocate divorce. I read your post and read it again. I could read it a million more times and it wouldn't change my mind. It wouldn't come to that with my wife and I. We are on the same page on this issue and for both of us abortion is not an option for our family.

Yes, even if that is God's plan because that "monster" is still a child of God and should be treated as such. Abortion is not respectful in the handling of a child of God.

How can you say she is right on the money? He has no right to privacy. The wire tapping by the NSA has no relevance to this situation.

If this is proven to be the truth I would expect the Speaker to resign. So far it's a "he said, she said" thing and when the investigation is complete only then we will really know.

Through all of this debate we forget about all of the kids that live in squalor b/c their mother would not give them up for adoption...or all of the millions of adoption cases that don't go well. You know...I'm just old enough to remember how people were concerned about JFK being Catholic...seems we didn't want the tenets of THAT religion guiding our country.

Today...we've got every religion that believes in Jesus trying to enact laws for our country. And I guess what bugs me is the hypocrisy of some of those religions. For example - I am Catholic. The Catholic church is pro life...that means that if we follow their doctrine, we are against abortion and euthanasia, and we are also against the death penalty and "unjust war". During the last election, a bishop insinuated that if a Catholic voted for John Kerry, they should be excommunicated. He didn't use Kerry's name - but only said if you voted for a candidate that did not oppose abortion, you qualified. We all know who that candidate was.

REcently, the archbishop in Kansas City wrote a "guide" for voters. Voting for a candidate who was not against abortion was bad. However, voting for a candidate who was anti abortion, but pro war and pro death penalty - both which violate the tenets of the church's "pro life" stance - was not bad because both of those topics were "debatable". Odd...I thought pro life meant pro life - that there was no debate. I guess it doesn't apply in all cases.

I would prefer a priest or bishop just tell people to stay home and not vote - because there are no candidates that meet the standards of a true "pro life" candidate. Bush even MOCKED a woman on death row. What would Jesus do in that situation?
