To make it simple for you........the company has been playing poker with the mechanics, hoping 500 or more would retire and run with the medical, but instead thay are hanging on. What does this mean......the company is on the hook for at least 800 mechanics severence along with sick time buy back. It was voted in and signed by both parties. Can U afford the cash outlay? It does not look promising!!!

The company and the union are sure selling the 'retire' now' option, to the point of being obtuse when you ask them what happens if you retire later.

yes jack and the cash outlay will hurt............. the retire would offset the junior furlough severance payout...but it looks like the gamble might not pay off.......

Didn't they offer to let senior mechanics to take severance with voluntary separation in place of junior mechanics anyway?

its on the table now...probably would work if they also offered unemploymnet too...but for some reason they don't want to go that route....

My point was can't senior mechanics go that route then retire anyway? If the company wanted them to retire why offer that?

yeah i had thoughts about "on the table"...lol....
yes you're right....its supposed to be used for someone who is going to another job and would give a junior employee a position as opposed to furlough....
