Merger with LCC in the spring

Just as an FYI,...........A good point was made on the DL board regarding the following;

Whomever DL 'hooks up with", DL wants to be the survivor, AND relocate to ATL .

THAT dear friends will bring a HOWL from the chairman of the Aviation sub committee, Jim Oberstar(D-MN), who IS a VERY formidable FOE.

He will FIGHT to the Death, to keep NW, and Especially MSP intact.

That statement is BANKABLE... 82 years of RED TAIL aviation history will NOT disappear quietly while holding the healthiest balance in the industry (wrung from the sweat of NWA LABOR!) JUST...so Doug Steenland can collect his $26.6 PLUS million with out working for it over the next 4 years.

When HELL FREEZES over!

One thing is for certain, there will be a major culture clash with whomever merges with Delta.

Yes. Delta only has two unionized groups- Pilots and Dispatchers. The rest have a lot of self pride/Delta pride. There is nothing wrong with that until to try to merge them with a us vs. them mentality that you'll find at UA or NW, although NW is much more severe.

I once heard that in a few years there will only be maybe 4 major US carriers, especially internationally.

That's been the 'conventional wisdom' for nearly 30 years now, since the start of deregulation, and "it ain't happened yet". Although there really are only 5 major US-based int'l carriers: AA/CO/DL/NW/UA.
The rest are just bit players, and all but nonexistant if one eliminates Canada/Mexico/Carribean from the international definition.

How do you figure? US has quite a lot of nice EU destinations. There are 6 majors in the US that fly int'l.

*** so come on, you can tell us. Who are you trying to piss off?***

So, US is not defined as a major US-based int'l carrier?

Unless these places have all become US territories, they are considered international. We may suck as a carrier right now, but 59 international destinations does not a domestic only carrier make.

So, US is not defined as a major US-based int'l carrier?

I wouldn't define tham as such. Their share of the international 'pie' is far less than the other five, especially if one discounts the 'near international' (see above). Not knocking them (there's more than enough folks on here doing that already), just saying that they don't have the international presence that the other five do.

FLY(Penguin Power)  , is correct, when she says that LCC flies (european) International destinations.

Having said that,...US has always had(a sort of) Identity crisis.

Meaning,..YES an International outfit, but NOT a LEGACY carrier.

BUT "stop the press's", because EVERYTHING is about to change, once the FIRST official announcement is made concerning a "MARRIGE",............And "thats" about to come...REAL...soon !!!

Identity crisis? excellent point! we at airways could only hope for a marriage with UNITED!

Sorry to nitpick, but some of those ARE express, most of the west Mexico stuff is Mesa... and just an example on our side of things, when was the last a mainline flight touched down in Ottawa?

That said, US will serve 20 stations in Europe this summer. Destination wise only, that's third after CO and DL.

If you include trans-Pacific, US drops down a few notches.....

Jim

I'm only talking about Europe, and I'm only talking about number of destinations. By any other measurement like seats US is last.
