What's new

Mergers coming soon....

Lufthanza investing in JetBlue. Hmmm...Now you will see the feeding frenzy begin. The question is who's next and will USAirways be a player. I think they will. With the stock now down below $16/share and alot of cash in the bank, it's anybodies guess. Mine is SPIRIT, but it is just a guess. Who knows if there is another foreign investor out there that wants a piece of USAirways

Could it be US and Jetblue?

Same fleet.
Soon to be same blue leather seating.
Soon to be similar entertainment for pax.
Same uniform designer.
The rumor of US closing LGA base maybe in lieu of JFK base.

And now Lufthansa.

Mine is SPIRIT, but it is just a guess.

I think you're right. I've heard (Oh NO! Another RUMOR!) that the owners of Spirit (which is privately held) are looking to get rid of the company since it is losing money big time. This is from former employees of Spirit, but since it is privately held, there is no way to prove their financial health or lack of it.

It would be nice to get another shot at a FLL hub with gates actually in the international terminal. I think a smaller scale hub than what we tried might actually work well. And their Airbus fleet would be a nice fit.

Remember the CEO of Spirit BBB use to be Vice President of Marketing at US.

Buying Spirit would also have the Doug Parker effect of consolidation, especially to the Caribean. Of course that then would provide a fleet of Airbuses to head to South America

Spirit woud be a nice addition. I have ALWAYS felt that US (old and current) abandoned the FLL hub operation well before they gave it a chance. One of the biggest mistakes this Company has made over the years is that THEY DO NOT ADVERTISE. Many people didn't even know about the FLL operation until it was too late. Business 101 covers the notion "You need to spend Money to make Money". AA has MIA locked up and anyone thinking they can go head-to-head down there will be handed their lunch. FLL on the otherhand is such a diluted operation that anyone with a sound business plan COULD make it work. (I have had several employees from Spirit on flights and boy have they seen a good airline go thru bad times. Almost made me think our SAGA is a bed of roses). Time will tell.........STILL WAIITING for that BIG Announcement.

<SNIP> One of the biggest mistakes this Company has made over the years is that THEY DO NOT ADVERTISE.
The rationalization I’ve always heard in the past was that travel agents and corporate travel departments were responsible for the majority of traffic on US.

Besides, TV time is expensive. Maybe there’s some cheap airtime between Hee-Haw reruns on satellite channel 756 at 3 AM.

I don't get why Lufthansa would want to invest into Jetblue or any US airline. Does this mean Jetblue will now join the Star Alliance and if so don't they have to have first class?
This comes up from time to time but Lufthansa does plenty of their domestic flying without first class. Oh and Usairways....we don't have first class. More like stadium seating with a snack basket. NOTHING else sets it apart from coach.

Maybe we'll merge with Allegient...or skybus. Really take out your competition. 🙄 So no announcements today? **crickets**

Had to go back and see how long it had been since we started this one ...12/4.

I was just thinking how big would UAL, Continental, and USAirways be merged?
Not really much larger than DAL/NWA, and somewhat larger than American as it stands today.

Sometimes I amaze myself!!! LOL
