You too can have the good life. FA's in DTW

I looked at their site and because I live in Washington, DC, it looks like I am not eligible for any part of the hiring process? If I am misreading this, somebody school me. Also, what is the new contract like? What does the first year NWA FA make for the first year? How is per diem? Just curiious...

I don't understand their new hiring process -- it seems to me they should look at how UAL and CAL are doing it -- all on-line, and then fly you out for the group interview.

Apply via NWA.com there is not geographical restrictions on there like there are on careerbuilder.com..

Thanks for the tidbit.

I asked this question earlier, but no one responded -- can someone tell me about the NWA FA contract? Pay rates, per diem, reserve guarantee, etc?

Coffee_Tea_Or_Me, you'll have to wait until our resident F/A on this board - jenny@nw - responds to your questions and provides you with her input.

(Actually I'm surprised that she hasn't responded to this thread yet...unless she's out on another trip to reach her hours for the month.)

Yes... I've been busy!
Nonetheless, go visit the www.nwaafa.org site where you can find the current contract.

Hmm... i think we are thinking the same thing coffee...

I know at Mesaba they start at $14.00/hr, the same as Republic. PLUS you get to wizz around in Saab340Bs all day (and night) long!!!

IIRC NWA F/As took a 40% pay cut, the steepest in the industry. Theoretically, that would put pay at about $15/hr range for first year f/a.

OOOOH Read this:

Fearless Leader of NWA has agreed to agree to agree to talks to consider cost-neutral ways to raise Quality of Life for FAs at NWA. Fearless Leader's article can be found here http://www.startribune.com/535/story/1367412.html

Oh, don't tell finman that we took a 40% cut (actually more)... even though the Star Tribune stated that we did. It was nice seeing the paper actually having a balanced article. This was back in May... I think,

I'm surprised NWA hasn't found a way to outsource the f/a's.
They can have people in India read the announcements, Chinese day laborers serve beverages and color-coded snack boxes and if the plane has a safety issue, well, the planes are insured, right?

I looked at the contract and I have to say, they are all pretty much the same give or take a dollar or two (among the majors anyway). Each has plusses and minuses. For example, I was really suprised US pays better in per diem and premium pays than CO, UA, and NWA.

I had a phone interview with NWA today. They want me to drive to Newark, NJ for an interview. Then, if they like me, I would be requested to get to DTW on my own (no transporation from them). So, we will see what happens with this. Not sure if I really want it badly enough to drive from DCA to EWR (certainly won't buy a ticket). Beyond that, same thing -- drive from DCA to DTW. I could probably get a buddy pass from a US buddy, but still.

This whole idea of geographical interviews BLOWS. They completely left out the DCA/IAD/BWI market. Too bad.

Or u could wait until they have a recuiting event in your area or closer to your area. Don't give up! 🙄
