Two news items that caught my attention...

Air Canada's group sold more USAirways stock retaining
a small percentage.Profit taking or do they want to
cash out before another merger?

United is still looking for a new corporate headquarters
and the article I just read mentioned they had retained
the Staubach group to assist them.USAirways also has
retained the Staubach group as their real estate advisor.

Pure coincidence? Um..I don't think so.

Staubach has a long list of corporate clients. In fact, Roger Staubach, the CEO, is on American Airlines board of directors, so what does that mean? Are AA and UA going to merge? It's very intersting to speculate, but do a little bit more critical thinking and get some more information before jumping to conclusions...

Unless UA ends up in bankruptcy, again, before the end of the year, say, US ain't gonna merge with them. Still too much "fat" to be cut there that is much easier to "trim" through the BK processes. (A/C leases, gates, etc...)

But, in this industry, never say never...

i have to really wonder if LCC will even merge with anyone this year. I personally highly doubt it due to the fact they are still in the merging process with HP

yes.... my preferred wild-axx guess has been LCC/NWA for a year or so and counting.

Would anyone agree that while the US/HP merger was more driven by CASM synergies,

a LCC/NWA merger would have to be justified to the money folk by RASM improvements?

My pick?

Alaska! Called AWA and I stand by this pick. Gee, if I were as lucky at the lottery!

Eastern? PAN AM? Braniff? errr wait a minute they are gone...rats....we could have called ourselves Pan-American--Eastern-Airways 🙂

NWA is in bankruptcy and is a low hanging fruit...contracts easy to abrogate, etc. If Parker was a really smart man (???), he would get the present merger done now; he could then take advantage of NWA's situation (Purely from a business perspective). LCC and a NWA hookup would rule the world!

I think you have a better chance of seeing donkeys fly then a UA/US merger.

Always remember to follow the money.
Then get your camera ready, cause it is going to be United. They will be heading back to BK and look for US to pick up the pieces. 18 months tops. This time there will be no government objections.

And just remember we all heard from the "Bob" ie, Bend over Babe (a certain pilot) first. In the end he is going to be right.

LOL - I dont think that is going to happen - although it would be interesting .. For some odd reason, I really don't believe that the investors that have the money tied up at UAL will let it get that far.... I think UAL will be involved in a merger way before that and if TILTON is still at the wheel USAIR will be nowhere in the picture.. he is not a fan and in my opinion is looking at DELTA very hard - USAir has nothing UAL doesnt and UAL is shoppin for the southern hub .... Watch and see I guess,,, should be interesting..

The integretion of this merger is'nt complete. It doesn't seem very smart to take another.

If UA goes back into BK and knocks costs down again, it'll be fine. It's possible Tilton might get that done without BK, although the signs are mixed--looks like UA is more interested in chasing a RASM premium.

I agree totally. While it's wonderful speculation, the timing is all wrong. Get this done, functioning and THEN start talking and looking. We cant be greedy.
