National Prayer Day?

I happen to think it's a generally bad idea for a sitting President to sanction openly any "day of Prayer" type activity.

This is nothing more than blatant pandering to the ultra left faction of his base. It's likely an effort to take their eye off the fact that socialized, government run Health Care is a dead as Paris Hilton's brain.

Obama Lobbies Churches to Pimp His Healthcare Plan

President Obama made a conference call Wednesday evening with an estimated 140,000 members of churches and religious groups across the country, soliciting them to “spread the facts and speak the truthâ€￾ about health care reform, suggesting those who oppose it are breaking one of the 10 commandments and bearing “false witness.â€￾

Well the president is proably correct , if we ask ourselves what would jesus do ? i think he would advocate that we do more to take care of our brothers and sisters .

Oh blond haired, blue eyed, fair skinned, Jay-zus. Protect us from all those evil dark people who want to destroy "America." They hate us for our freedom!
Please let them see the evil in their ways...let them open their hearts, minds and wallets to McDonalds, Starbucks, Coca Cola, Iphones and all other worthless baubles! Allow them to see that appropriation of their national wealth and minerals by U.S. multinationals is for their own good...for they know not how to manage such lucrative assets.
Smite them who question our "manifest destiny" to bring "democracy' to these heathens!
Cast down upon them a rain of smart bombs and cruise missiles on those who dare resist our "Holy Crusade!'
All this we ask in the name of our mighty military industrial complex ...of which Eisenhower warned us about...Amen.

it's pro abortion ? well then , we can't pass this ...

In the article you posted, Obama said the following: "These are all fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation - that is that we look out for one another, that I am my brother's keeper and I am my sister's keeper,â€￾ insisted the president.

This comment from Obama, and freedom's comment above, I believe is fundamentally flawed and raise another appropriate question. Would Jesus advocate an individual responsibility to take care of your neighbors - - or would he advocate that a government force others to take care of your neighbors? When Jesus came to earth, many thought he would establish an earthly kingdom to rule the people and vindicate their waiting for the messiah/king. Jesus did many great things. Jesus did not, however, establish a new government on earth. Yet, time and time again, people (read: some religious people) often attempt to do what Jesus never did. While Obama may arguably be correct in stating that people have a moral obligation to be your "brother's keeper", I find no support from his statement that it is the government's responsibility to force such obligation upon the people.

As it relates to a National Prayer Day... I can almost guarantee you (whether you feel it right or wrong) that it is only a matter of time before an appeal/lawsuit challenging the law requiring the President to make such a proclamation will be brought before a Court of Appeals for favoring religion over non-religion.
