Needles Found In Turkey Sandwiches On Four Delta Flights

COULD and DOES are two entirely different things.

Irrelevant.

You claimed that it DL couldn't get rid of "disgruntled" employees. I've pointed to explicit written company policy that states otherwise.

Then, thousands of words later, you mentioned that you hadn't looked at said policy.

That, to quote the inimitable Southwind, tells me all I need to know.

The fact that they are not the same is exactly why the representation elections have not been successful - and there has been enough time since the merger that if there really was a problem, it would surface and DL employees would respond.

Lots of things are surfacing across various workgroups. You can take my word for it or not.

DL employees have been involved in representation campaigns for years - and other than the pilots decades ago, no major group has not gained representation.

Nice double negative. Freudian slip?

Seriously, just because it hasn't happened before doesn't mean it won't in the future. The fallacy of the antecedent has been a recurring theme in this thread with you, but it's just that- a fallacy.

Again, your campaign of "they could" is not backed up by reality - which is why no one really sees it is a problem.

Well, if reality =/= written company policy, then okay. otherwise, see above.

BTW, who is "no one?"

I have indeed seen DL's HRPM and it says nothing about treating employees differently depending on the state in which they work. It also doesn't contain sections which apply to one group and not the other.
The HRPM also doesn't contain half of the processes that are necessary in order to terminate an employee.
Haven't looked at the HRPM
Which is it?

I haven't look at the HRPM in the past several years because I don't need to do so to do my current job.

Whatever words (or lack thereof) you think you found as the smoking gun upon your arrival at DL doesn't mean they didn't exist before..

What remains reality is that DL COULD HAVE laid off its entire workforce with considerable ease based on the wiggle room its lawyers created in its employee-accessible documents.

The reality is that DL DOESN'T lay off employees w/o a pretty extensive process - one that I personally participated in and which hasn't changed despite the arrival of 40K people who thought they should see a contract to protect their job. The WA and PA and NE and... employees who came before them w/ unions and which decided they didn't need it anymore found out that the "loopholes" that you think you found don't really amount to anything.

The fact remains that DL employees in every major non-pilot workgroup decided not to seek representation.

Which means the fears that are being expressed here really are not shared by the majority of DL employees... and, again, the system is built around a "winner takes all" philosophy - kind of like "you are either pregnant or you are not since there is no in between."

Yes, Kev, there will be unionization attempts - and there will be employees who do not think DL is treating them right. I wouldn't expect anything different in a company of 80K people, more than 60K of which are not represented.
But it still doesn't change that the majority of DL employees outside of the pilot work group have for 80 years believed they didn't need a union - and DL has one of the better working relationships with its pilots.

DL's fairly favorable labor relations has been a key part of its ability to gain where other companies have faced labor turmoil that has signifcantly impacted the bottom line. IN an industry today where DL has labor peace compared to what exists at other airlines, the difference will become more and more obvious.

The sidetrack from the needle incident has been fun... I just don't want anyone to accuse me of failing to remember the topic at hand.

here is a new tag line....( i claim all royalties!)

'creating drama one day at a time!'

No one's claiming it didn't exist before. It exists *now,* and that's all that matters.
perhaps others figured out how to work w/in that framework?
.
Again, I think highly of you... my recommendation - if you care - is to focus on what you can accomplish within the framework that exists and likely won't change.
You have exactly the mind and passion alot of organizations want - you just have to decide to focus your energies on that which will produce results.

BTW, it appears Holly Hegeman of Plane Business has awarded DL CEO Richard Anderson her Wild Turkey award which is based on excelling in 3 areas including employee relations.

Back to the topic...

I hate to bring it up and it is perhaps irrevelent...much like labor relations...but is it odd that another incident occured on a Delta from Amsterdam one Christmas day? Personally, I would consider this a possible terrorist act.

Fact, a food service isn't going to want this spotlight focusing on them. Perhaps the needles are being analyzed to find if they were more than just needles.

Given that AMS is, IIRC, DL's 2nd busiest int'l station behind NRT, it is possible that AMS could have a disproportionate number of "incidents."

There are some mumblings that 2 of the sandwiches were served to a father and his son on 2 different flights. With as many flights as DL has from AMS, the chances of 2 of the 6 contaminated sandwiches (I believe that is the right number) being served to 2 known people out of hundreds of business class seats from the same airport are not real high.
Supposedly the Dutch police have taken responsibility for the investigation so who knows what if anything that means.
If the passengers are now in the US and are US citizens, the chances of extraditing a passenger for something non-lethal is probably not real high.

I'm sure there will be questions about who had access to the galleys and the food that was served etc from the moment the meal counts were received from DL.

BTW, labor relations are quite relevant - but not everyone comes to the same conclusion about how 'success' is defined.

How dare anyone think there might be disgruntled employees at a food distribution company..................we hereby claim that copyright for airline employees only !

"Lots of things are surfacing across various workgroups. You can take my word for it or not."

Guess I won't take your word for it Kev, since I haven't heard "IT" !
