Resident critically injured in fire, authorities say

Hollywood

A man is holding on to life after a fire broke out in his home, critically injuring him Tuesday, his neighbors and authorities said.

The man was found unconscious on the floor of his bedroom between his bed and a dresser after firefighters put out the fire shortly before 1 p.m. Neighbors identified him as Neil Lennon, 45.

Firefighters gave Lennon CPR and took him to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, said Hollywood Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Rob Hazen. He was later taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Hazen said. Neighbors noticed flames and smoke coming from Lennon's home in the 2500 block of Bruce Terrace, called paramedics and tried to put out the fire with hoses, said neighbor Judy Velez.
