It seems to be an intermittent problem. If you check the box to save your id, it should do just like the "old days." However, I, too, have noticed that sometimes when I access the Message Boards I have to sign in again.
It doesn't happen all the time, though. Just now, I was already logged in when I accessed USAviation.com.
