hey ISP ...

The 2nd MSY starts in April 27? 28? but where did you hear about the the 2nd DEN?

Just curious 🙂

If MSY starts in late April and they are just loading that service into the computers now, that doesn't leave a whole lot of spool up time. Most, not all, airlines announce new or additional service about 2 - 3 months out to allow more pax the opportunity to book the additional service. Good for both cities!

JETBLUE ANNOUNCES SUMMER EXPANSION WITH 35% FLIGHT INCREASE OVER SUMMER 2003; NEW FLIGHTS FROM JFK TO DENVER, NEW ORLEANS,
BUFFALO AND ROCHESTER

-- Service from LaGuardia to Begin by Late Summer --

New York, NY (March 25, 2004) – JetBlue Airways [NASDAQ: JBLU], New York’s low-fare carrier, is expanding service again from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport in time for the busy summer travel season with 35% more flights than last summer.

JetBlue will add a second daily flight to New Orleans, LA on April 22. Also, on May 4, the airline will add a second daily flight to Denver, CO, a fifth daily service to Rochester, and sixth and seventh daily Buffalo flights. All flights are operated with 156-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.

“After serving Denver for three years, we’re pleased to add daytime service to New York to complement our current red-eye flights to both JFK and Boston,†said David Neeleman, JetBlue’s Chairman and CEO. “Additional flights between New York and New Orleans, Rochester and Buffalo will also increase our customers’ summer travel options this year, especially with our plans for new Caribbean service to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic**.â€

The low-fare carrier previously announced that it had intended to begin operations from New York’s LaGuardia Airport in the spring. In working with its business partners at the Federal Aviation Administration and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to resolve facilities issues, JetBlue now intends to initiate this service by late summer.

Hmm... this expansion is probably the result of delaying LGA service. Those new planes have to go somewhere, right?

The DEN and MSY service currently operates in the 90%-100% range and I think that the new service in response to demand.

jetBlue has been reluctant to add service to DEN because its such an expensive airport, but the demand is definitly there.

However, I dont think that this expansion is in response to the delaying of LGA. Restoring the 2nd MSY has been talked about for a while now, it was a matter of using the gate there and working out the times.

Now all we need is a second SEA!

Definitely more SEA would be great! Is that a gate issue, too? Hey, while we're at it, why not PDX or YVR?

Apparently, jB said we need our own space at SEA-TAC and they said only if you add another flight. We said we'd add another flight if we get our own space and they said no space until we see a second flight. I wonder who will budge first.

YVR is a no go until T6 gets customs (unless YVR operates the same way YYZ does where you clear US customs in the YYZ airport). AirCanada operates a 319 from YVR-JFK nonstop once a day and no non stops YVR-EWR. Maybe its a load factor/O&D thing??

Isnt PDX really really expensive? but also seems like a logical choice.

Well, until Concourse A opens up, they're still dealing with quite a gate shortage overall.

YVR passengers clear U.S. customs as they leave Canada and clear Canadian customs upon arrival into Canada, just as it is in YYZ.

I think the real reason why JB is delaying their LGA service is because they can't handle AA, UA and DL. Just look at their track record:

1. LGB-ATL (service stopped, DL killed them)

2. LGB-LAS (service stopped, AA, UA, NW, HP and SW killed them out of LAX) Southwest also killed them due to their service from BUR, ONT and SNA. America West also killed them from SNA.

They can't take the heat and David is running away with his tail between his legs!

I have also heard rumors that JB wants to start LGB-DFW. They will never be able to take on the DFW GiAAnt!

They said when they started those routes they were holders for the slots, until they had the planes to move the LGB slots to long hauls, as they have. Though you're right on ATL--they didn't expect Airtran to wet-lease planes. But it did fool the big boys into thinking that they could be shoved out anywhere. That's why we have the entertaining spectacle of watching the AA mgmt destroy their transcon revenues so they can thump their chest about how they're sticking it to jb. At least in their SEC filings they had to admit that low revenues, "especially in transcon markets," would more than offset cost savings achieved since last year's near-bk experience. So let's see who has profits in Q1 and who doesn't. At least AA mgmt., after running their head into a wall a few times, usually has the sense to back off. Will DL?

Nice attempt at revisionist history.

1 As has been stated, Airtran quickly entered the ATL-LAX market. Delta has had their buttox handed to them on this route. Look at the ticket prices.

2 Are you foolish enough to think the slots in LGb were obtained to fly LGB-LAS? Think about it. By the way these flights are full.

Which airline do you work for?
