Not sure what policy you are talking about (I'm a DAL AMT).
Most of the folks we do maint. for want at least chapter-subchapter reference (say 33-40).
Could you please explain the policy you are talking about ?

Beginning January, 2009, All corrective actions will require the full maintenance reference in the sign off, including figure number if applicable. For instance if an engine generator is replaced, it can be signed off as "replaced generator as per MM". Now, the exact chapter reference is required.
However, what will happen is that the simpler write ups like "lights inop" or "seat trim loose" will now become lengthy corrective actions because paperwork will have to be pulled. Then management will accuse us of a slowdown or job action.

Well, whether you like it or not you had better just get used to it. Every airline out there requires a MM,SRM ref. for sign offs,except for AA. I was shocked when I hired on at AA and saw some of the sign offs that were allowed here. At Braniff you had to have a MM,SRM ref. for everything and if it wasn't the correct reference, QA would reject your sign off. Speaking of QA, at Braniff almost everything had to be bought off by a QA inspector. AA's RII program is a joke and it look's like the FAA is fixin to make AA do some major changes on buy backs.
To stay out of trouble and avoid being written up for non compliance take the extra time to pull the paper work for all work. Think of the delays the company will get when you have to look up paperwork to change a

re-secure a loose ceiling panel,
relamp a lav light,
replace a seat belt,
adjust a sticky galley cart safety latch,
ops check a inter-phone system,
secure a loose video monitor,
repair a seat back pocket,
repair a armrest cover,
replace a missing ashtray cover,
adjust an overhead bin latch,
replace a seat cushion.

You can just placard everything to avoid getting written up for improper sign-off procedure.
Get them placards ready boys because that is what I will be doing regardless how much ground time I have. The placard is your sign-off procedure for the deferral. It's that easy.
This new policy will place us in jeopardy if we do not follow company policy. They are covering their butts and we will follow company policy to protect our butts or license as we refer to it.
