What's new

No Mo' ObamaPhones !

A true criminal uses a "burner."

Class dismissed.

Know what's awesome? If you don't want to help pay for this program, you don't have to! All you have to do is cancel (or not renew) your cellphone contract. Problem solved!

No! This is a tax "FORCED" upon carriers, by your government, which of course is passed onto the customers, so in essence no one to blame here except for the government !

"This particular program is covered by the federal Universal Service Fund. At first it received its money by essentially taxing telephone companies that provided long-distance service, with the money then being used to provide affordable rates for those living in less densely populated areas where phone service was more costly. However, in 1996, Congress voted to extend the use of this fund to subsidize low-income households and subsequently expanded the list of those required to pay into the fund to include: local telephone companies, wireless companies, paging services, and payphone providers. (Naturally, the cost for this fund is passed to the customer.) In 2008, the Federal Communications Commission began subsidizing cell phones for low-income households."

Whats the difference between subsidizing a land line verses cell phone?

1. Because thats the way it was originally intended and can understand the need, "AT HOME", in case of an emergency..........if your at your local Walmart, I'm sure there are plenty of people, around, who can contact the athuority's, if there's an emergency !
2. I'm sure it's cheaper !

No one's "forcing" you to do a damn thing.

Like I said before; if you're that against the program, don't participate. Easy.

Riiiiiight.

'Cause nothing bad ever happens outside of the home... 🙄

Class is in session....Keyword-Landline! With Obama you have CELL PHONES because druggies are mobile and cell phones make crime a hell of a lot easier! Add to that the fact that they advertise the WELFARE phone on TV and those entrepreneurs in the hood and trailer are bound to see a money making scheme. The rest of you are in the wrong profession, because you're paying for it.
Not quite, drug dealers have money and buy throwaway phones.
IIRC, even welfare phones are tied to a person wherein the blister packed, prepaid phone isn't.

As pointed out emergencies do happen in situations where other may not be available or willing to help.

Are you sure because you looked or are you sure because it fits your POV?

I looked and the difference is small enough that depending on where you live and what the taxes/competition is like the difference may be non-existent.

I can get a free phone from sprint and their base plan for 200 min is $30 a month. AT@T will give me a basic land line for $25 a month.

These prices are for TX so your mileage may vary.

In order to aquire cell phone service, which is a "want" and not a "need", I am forced to pay the surcharges, imposed on my carrier, by the government!

I didn't sign a cellphone contract, in oreder to provide free service to others, it's just another necessary evil, brought to you by your government !

And face it Kev, your just pissed because "IT IS" the government that is responsible and not the carrier !

All company's pass their taxes onto the customer !

Exactly. A "want."

Don't "want" to pay those surcharges, you don't "need" to. Just don't renew your contract.

Better yet, w/o having to pay that bill, you can start paying me what you owe...

Now you say it's necessary. What made you change your mind?

Outside the home can mean more than Wal Mart...

I'm not pissed. I'm just continuously amazed at your inability to understand certain concepts.

Watch out, the dead beat will accuse you of beating a dead horse.
