Northwest Begins Lease Rejections

This is just a guess based on what little I have heard around the shop. Northwest is going to attempt to rebuild its fleet using nothing but Airbus.

This fleet rationalization "rumor" has been going around for at least 5-7 years. Up until now has been too easy (and had been prudent financially) to keep the DC9's going rather than revamp the 78-135 seat side of the fleet. If they were truly serious about it, they would have gone with the A350 instead of the 787.

What good is going to come from this strike?

Yet another Red Herring intended to incite. There are plenty of other strike-related threads on here. Keep on topic, please.

I think with this bankruptcy they will fast-trac the program. This is an opportunity to get out from under some long-term leases. It is a shame that the DC-9's are so inefficient and basically worthless, otherwise Northwest would be in a very nice position.
