Report: Bush opposed to pension relief
Friday March 10, 1:38 pm ET
President Bush on Friday spoke out against pension reform legislation designed to help struggling companies like Northwest Airlines Corp., Reuters reports.
Congress is considering a bill that would allow companies, including bankrupt airlines to defer pension contributions.
"People have asked whether or not private companies that have made pension promises should be relieved of their responsibility," Bush said, according to Reuters. "And my answer is, if you make a promise, you got to keep it."
Eagan-based Northwest (Pink Sheets: NWACQ - News), Delta Air Lines and others have strongly backed reform legislation.

Just a prelude of what is next...Pensions going, going, gone. ALPA gave it up with the Small Jet issue in order to save the NWA pilot pension. Pensions WILL be gone before the ink is dry on that nice BS T.A. The NWA-MEC rolled over hard on this whole deal. It was an attempt to sell out the bottom half in order to save the top pilots pensions - not good. I would hope anyone with a little vision will see the future intentions (ie, FLYi/Pensions) of NWA mgt and vote NO on the Pilot TA.
