Obama’s comments came after talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in which the new Israeli leader was expected to stress Israel’s concerns about Iran’s nuclear program.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama set a rough timetable for his diplomatic outreach to arch-foe Iran for the first time on Monday, saying he wanted to see serious progress by the end of the year.

He also held out the prospect of tougher sanctions against Tehran "to ensure that Iran understands we are serious."
For those few still in denial, this timetable/timeline/deadline is called a: PRECONDITION

Anyways...How does Iran Respond?

TEHRAN (Reuters) - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday Iran had tested a missile that defense analysts say could hit Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf; a move likely to fuel Western concern about Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

What should be the appropriate response?

Iran is laughing at Nobama's olive branch and mocking him in front of the world and realize all this administration knows how to do is spend money. Thank goodness Israel see's through all of this and will most likely take matters into their own hands with or without "The Annointed One's" blessing !

That is not a precondition to talking with Iran. It is the timetable to determine if such talks are actually productive.

"By the end of the year we should have some sense whether or not these discussions are starting to yield significant benefits, whether we are starting to see serious movement on the part of Iranians," Obama said.

Sounds like preconditions to me. BTW, NEWSFLASH: there are no discussions taking place. Obama flaps his lips, Iran goes yeah, yeah, yeah and does what ever they want, humiliating Obama.

Guess Obama failed in changeing Netanyahu's mind.

JERUSALEM — Israel's air force held a large-scale exercise simulating war on several fronts with enemies that include Iran, Israeli defense officials said Friday.

The practice this week involved Israel's entire air arm and was meant to prepare for an all-out war, including missile attacks aimed at Israeli cities, the officials said. It lasted four days, ending Thursday.

Iran was one of the main topics of discussion at the White House this week when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Barack Obama held their first meeting.

The new U.S. administration has said it will engage Iran, reversing the policy of the Bush administration. At the same time, the new U.S. leadership is threatening to pursue more international sanctions against Iran if those efforts fail.

Um yeah, since those sanctions have worked great so far. What is he gonna do? Send another "strongly worded letter"?
