Passenger Traffic Continues to Rebound

Passenger traffic at Port Columbus was up 35.5-percent for the month of September as compared to September, 2001. Due to the 2001 terrorist attacks, a more appropriate comparison is September, 2000, which was about 1-percent higher than this September.

When looking at year-to-date data, 2002 is down 2.2 percent from 2001. Current year-to-date
statistics are 1-percent below 2000, which was a record-breaking year for Port Columbus.

According to the Air Transport Association, national passenger statistics reflect an increase of 28 percent for September, 2002 and an 8 percent decrease for year-to-date.

“We attribute our rebounding passenger traffic to the local economy’s ability to withstand economic downturns and to the airlines providing affordable air service to desired destinations,â€￾ said Elaine Roberts, Executive Director of the Columbus Airport Authority.
