With Rita already affecting prices, all I'm going to do this week is post the chart showing jet fuel vs WTI spot prices per barrel. The numbers for last Friday are being eclipsed by the weather. The chart is for the period starting 8/26 and ending 9/20.

As you can see, both crude & jet fuel prices are up in anticipation of Rita.

Jet fuel supplied (thousand barrels) for week ending:
08/26/05 1,578

and the sad part is is that RITA may destroy most of the biggest rigs in the Gulf near or offshore of Texas given that it is in the line of fire. I just hope the rise isnt a permanent thing

Since the Gulf oil infrastructure is becoming more affected by preparations for Rita, I'll put this MMS update here.....

"Today’s shut-in oil production is 1,097,357 BOPD. This shut-in oil production is equivalent to 73.16% of the daily oil production in the Gulf."

[Percentage of production shut-in had dropped below 56% before evacuations of rigs/platforms began in preparation for Rita]

"The cumulative shut-in oil production for the period 8/26/05-9/21/05 is 27,104,502 bbls, which is equivalent to 4.951 % of the yearly production of oil in the Gulf."

[The low was on 9/19/05 at 837,648 barrels of oil per day]

57.26% of 819 manned platforms and 51.49% of 134 rigs currently operating in the Gulf of Mexico have been evacuated.

[These were 10.13% of 819 manned platforms and 3.73% of 134 rigs on 9/19/05]
