What's new

PHL and CLT named 2 best large airports

Looks like I read it wrong....PHL was the top ranked airport....the rest were listed alphabetically.

I saw some of the new uniforms in c/s and f/a....they look really hot...especially that light blue....or whatever it's called.....I'm a ramper,we are thinking we are getting either the prison orange or work release gray...LOL .........(just kidding)

🙄 Are these guys [JD Powers] the same people that Continental and Delta employees brag about for rating them #1 across the Atlantic and such...

Are you sure this isn't a joke? I think PHL should be changed to SUX - because from a passenger standpoint, it SUX. CLT is by far a better airport to connect in. I mean really. Lets see...

The gate for the bus to F is named C16 and located on the way to the D concourse.
You cant get to F without taking the bus unless you want to go through security twice.
When you come off the bus, popular to what most of us tend to do in America, we're told to keep to the LEFT when walking.
When taking the escallators down to the bus loading area, nobody tells PAX to move out of the way at the bottom of the escallators, often making people fall at the bottom.

I mean, it was way worse a few years ago before US Airways painted their gates and cleaned their carpets, but I dont know how PHL could win an award unless it is for improvement.

I prefer the bus in Philly to walking from E to B in CLT. It's faster and easier on the knees. Anyone coming in on F is flying US and not connecting to another US flight. Not only that, there is a long moving walkway right at the top of the escalator that goes right to the end of the D terminal.

I've got to weigh in here.

IMO, JD Power (and all of the rest of these surveys, like Wichita and ACSI) are crap.

I remember for several years running, we were bombarded with propaganda "urging" us to go online to vote for US & Dividend Miles so that we'd win the JD Power ranking. So, is this a true sort of double-blind study, with actual people surveyed, if you will, or is this just bunk that can be manipulated by corporate spin mongers that encourage mindless worker bees to vote to make company (or in this case airport) XYZ look better than the competition?

PHL and CLT will get some PR spin out of this. US may too.

But it's a load of BS. The thing that really matters to customers is how the airport performs operationally. The DOT's Air Travel Consumer Report (http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/reports/2008/May/200805atcr.pdf) shows the following for May 2008

Airport Arrival % Departure %
SLC 81.0 84.4
CLT 76.2 78.9
PHL 72.1 74.7
EWR 56.1 63.8
LGA 54.1 68.5

Avg 71.2 74.3

(Sorry - couldn't get those to post in neater columns, but you get the picture. Neither CLT nor PHL are #1 or #2, except for in JD's suspect voting scheme)

CLT doesn't perform badly, but I'd personally much rather change planes in a Spartan facility and be on-time than be stuck in a snazzy airport waiting for a plane to take off or land.
