The bag belt broke early today in PHl,missed bags everywhere.Mandatory overtime for the ramp and they are still shorthandede.Another day in Paradise!

Although the perception will be that this is another USAirways blunder, a lot of the blame goes to the city of Philadelphia and that inept mayor for bungling the management of PHL all around. There's a very sorted history in the whole baggage system contract to go with it, too.

may e the inept mayor should start helping usair out by fixing the baggage system at absouletly no cost to usair

The "inept mayor" spent the resources 'wooing' Southwest. Perhaps, the new city slogan should be: "City Of Brotherly LUV."

It makes sense to myself and I am sure many others to continue using the old baggage system in Phl along with the maxed out capacity at that airport when U gave up the state of the art system in Pit along with an under utilized consumer friendly airport.

(sigh) I know... Tell that to CCY and they'll just pull out an Excel Spreadsheet and point to numbers. It's all about numbers now; no more giving the 'numbers' the best service possible.

I'm sure the Feds are watching so maybe they'll understand what really goes on in PHL.

City of PHL: yeah, help the company with things like lowering the monthly rent on the international gates ($100,000/month for each one -- wass the rent in the late 1990s). How many outbound flights can use each one of them in a day? Spread that across the number of paying passengers, and you see how the city is sucking the airport and airlines dry.

It might look nice inside, but it is a third world airport.

a 3rd world airport for a 3rd world city
Philly (my hometown) is an embarrasement....this mayor is a joke (should be in jail) and the inmates are running the city (you don't pay, you don't play)

Eyeinthesky,

You better copy write that slogan..before the mayor steals it!!!

Well, I've seen Philly vastly improve in the 20 years I've been there, but I attribute that to two things: 1.) Mayor Rendel (1992-2000), now gov. of PA. 2.) imrpoved economy in the 1990's.

The city was completlely bankrupt and hanging on a string in 1990. Fast Eddie turned it around, started the slow reduction of the wage tax(at the time, nearly 5%) and trumpeted the convention center. The airport projects for the Intl. terminal A-West, terminal B/C rennovation, terminal F, parking garages, and runway 8-26 were all started under Eddie's tenure.

What the F has John Street done for this city but start a slow reverse? He's like a bad cancer, and it's only a matter of time before he's extracted. The Feds are still hot on his case and, despite what he'll have you believe, they still have him and his croonie under investigation.

But that's off topic, sort of. The baggage system is a large responsibility of the city. What the he11 is Street doing(besides trying give his inexperienced brother the contract) to fix it?

It seems that a full airbus from PHL arrived in SFO Sunday minus lots of bags. The ATO had to put everybody avail on bag claim duty. One pax said over 100 in line to file claims. I thought this was under control. Maybe people were too busy passing out coffee and tasty cakes to notice we still have a problem.

Please, this has to stop and it is time for U to take control of this mess Find who was supposed to load that flt and if they cannot give a valid reason that it was not loaded they should be shown the door. Make these folks accountable.

I know that the folks in res are over this mess and it is hard to sell tickets while they are being blasted by pax who still do not have bags lost on Dec 22. The saddest story was family who traveled for memorial service and the bag containg the ashes of their loved one is missing. I hope whoever took part in this baggage mess will never experience this kind of service.

Much the same situation in SAN and LAX last night. Back to the same old crap from PHL. 100's of pax arvd without bags again.

The "valid reason" is that there is no one to load the bags.
I don't know how many times this has to be said.
We have 30 fsa for B gates....that's 10 crews for 15 flights...all gats full....all the time.

The bag system in PHL is not old! It was built less than 10 years ago.
The problem is that you need people to remove the bags from the system once they are sorted or the belt system fails.

Are you beginning to get the picture?
