CLT-LGW came from PI. I think they might have also held BWI-LGW authority prior to the merger.
I was under the impression that the AA PHL-LGW flight route authority was transferred to RDU-LHR.
Close.... it's a tangled web between AA, TW, and US with regard to all these routes.....
PI started CLT-LGW in July '87. US assumed the route and flew it up to 1993, at which point they forfeited it as a condition for the BA investment. AA was awarded the frequency in a 1993 route proceeding, and transferred it to RDU, which is where it remained up until Open Skies. In 1997, US was re-awarded authority to resume under their own banner. Startup was delayed because US couldn't get decent slots at LGW.
TW held BWI-LGW authority from at least 1987 up until 1993. US wound up receiving it in a 1992 route proceeding that was held after TW gave up the route (at the same time they sold LHR to AA), and forfeited it a little over a year later as a precondition for the BA investment. AA was awarded the frequency in a 1993 route proceeding and transferred it to BNA (DL was the only other airline seeking LGW, and was trying to grab it for SLC-LGW).
TW held PHL-LHR authority going back into the 70's if not earlier, and moved it in 1991 to LGW when they sold their LHR routes to AA. That authority was reassigned to US in the same 1992 route proceeding that gave them BWI-LGW, and again, they forteited it in 1993 as a precondition for the BA investment. AA was awarded the frequency in a 1993 route proceeding, and operated it for less than a year, at which time the frequency was moved in 1995 to either BOS or JFK. US was re-awarded authority for PHL-LGW in 1997, and resumed the route in April 1998.
