When HP merges their air certificates with US, will the HP aircraft have to change their plane registration too?

That would be a great way to waste money...just like U did after the PI merger.

I would expect them to keep the US certificate, if for no other reason than the A330 and B767 are already on the US certificate.

They may change them, but it is not a requirement that they do so. NW still has many A/C that have the same registration numbers that they did prior to the mergers. I have seen NC=North Central, RC=Republic, S=Southern, and RW=Hughes Airwest. Following the merger of Empire into Piedmont, none of the former Empire F-28's had there registration numbers changed, and there were even a few former PSA 727's that kept the PS codes on them.

Since there are a few planes with nearly identical N#'s - the same number but different letter suffix - those might get changed to avoid confusion. Otherwise, as someone else said, it seems a waste of money.

Without fail...Tail numbers at present will create some confusion. Namely with Fli-Fo's in Sabre where Mainline Metal uses the actual tail # as opposed to the 3 Letter indentifiers that the Express affiliates use.

Just the other night , a knowledgable co-worker read a story about 679 recieving the New US Livery...the co-worker exclaimed "Wow , when did we get another A330? "

I had to tell him to look a the entire November Number to see that it was N679AW..an A320.

We will have a number of issues until this becomes rationalized.

The Ship number can be changed without changing the "N" registration number. I know that DL has several A/C that have a 4 digit Ship Number that doesn't match the Registration number.

Well this would not have to be the case for all the west birds. The 737-300's are 100 series N numbers. The 757 are 900's and the 319's are 800's. The only effected birds would be the west A320 600-679

East 600-632 are US AU VJ's 757-200
East 645-656 US 767-200's
East 670-678 UW 330-300's

An example of confusion if it was not for the paint jobs N604AU parked on B9 and N604AW on B7 at PHL picture this persons face when the ASIG fueler was told to put 56000 on in tail 604. Same would apply with 678AW and 678UW.See where this is going so tail number would have to change at least with this fleet.

Don't forget we have some 737-300's in the 300 series.

Rumor has it (good source) that some of East's 57's will get new registration numbers so they don't conflict with the West's 320 fleet registration numbers.

The F28s were renumbered.

They started at 450US and ended with 499US.
