Plane Registratio

first the certificate and the location of it has not been decided. the n # are not tied to the certificate

Just to clarify, I believe it was announced that when the two carriers merge operations, US East would be the surviving certificate, and would be located in PIT.

That's not to say the OCC will be located there, as no decision has been announced on that yet.

The F28s were renumbered.

They started at 450US and ended with 499US.
Yes they were changed after the PI/US merger, but not when PI took over Empire. I even remember a few new F-28's that were delivered in PI colors with the UR registration code.
121UR comes to mind, and there were a few others too. I think that there were also a few X-Altair F-28's that never had their Reg. changed either...N505 and so on....

They don't have to change the aircraft registration number. The titles "pink slip" will all change in both fleets to reflect the PHX corporate address or possibly the PIT address if the title has to show the certificate address.

NWA and DAL are all flying aircraft with N numbers from predecesor carriers. NW has tail numbers with US, NW, RC, and RW. and an occasional E or EA. Delta still has Western Airlines WA.

The registration fee is pretty low, but they have to physically change the numbers on the aircraft, and all the log books etc. So my guess is that the HP powers at US will elect to leave the N numbers alone and develop a fleet number for every aircraft. Probably a 4 digit tail number. AA has some pretty funky fleet numbers. Some are alpha-numeric.

It would make sense to not spend the money to have to reregister the number with all the paperwork involved and just come up with new Fleet Numbers for the planes. It could be redesigned so the numbers are easily identifiable for aircraft type instead of having A320/757/767/A330 ALL with 600 numbers. We dont have a 1000 planes in the fleet so they ought to be able to figure out how to get 300 or so numbered with new FLEET numbers and not be so confusing.
