"Hainan Airlines Co Ltd is the most likely target for the much-talked-about United Airlines equity deal. Financier George Soros intends to sell his 14.8% stake in the Hainan Airlines for personal reasons, and has been helping the carrier land other investors, including foreign airlines.

UA's chief representative in China, Sidney Kwok, was quoted by mainland media as saying that the US carrier is interested in acquiring stakes in a domestic carrier, and is currently in talks with several candidates.

Formed in 1993, Hainan Airlines has a fleet of 82 aircraft, including 37 Boeing 737s, three Boeing 767s, and 19 Dornier 328s."

Has anyone else heard about this?

And just where is UA going to come up with this cash for the investment? Just wondering.......

Cash? We don't need no stinking cash!!!!

Maybe the article means the reverse...Hainan will acquire a stake in UAL, not the other way around.

But, don't worry, the jingoistic Repubs in Congress will prevent that from happening. Just like they did with the Unocal deal. They would rather see UAL go under than be revitalized with that dirty Communist cash--which was U.S. dollars before we sent it to them by shopping at Wal-Mart.

Cynicism is not in the UAL Business Plan.

Unfortunately, neither are reality or profitability.
