NYC Mayor Reignites Gun Control Debate After Colorado Theater Shooting

A longtime proponent of gun control, New York City Michael Bloomberg weighed in on the tragic shooting early Friday morning in Aurora, Colorado, that left 12 dead and dozens more wounded at a showing of The Dark Knight Rises. Twenty-four year-old suspect James Holmes was arrested after allegedly opening fire in the crowded theater and carrying a rifle, handgun and gas mask. The tragedy prompted Bloomberg's police commissioner to announce increased security at screenings of The Dark Knight Rises in NYC to prevent any possible copycat incidents.

"You know, soothing words are nice, but maybe it’s time that the two people who want to be President of the United States stand up and tell us what they are going to do about it, because this is obviously a problem across the country," Bloomberg said Friday morning on WOR Radio's The John Gambling Show with Mayor Mike.

"Everybody always says 'Isn't it tragic?' And you know, we look for was the guy, as you said, maybe trying to recreate Batman. I mean, there are so many murders with guns every day, it’s just got to stop. And instead of the two people – President Obama and Governor Romney – talking in broad things about they want to make the world a better place, okay, tell us how. And this is a real problem. No matter where you stand on the Second Amendment, no matter where you stand on guns, we have a right to hear from both of them concretely, not just in generalities – specifically what are they going to do about guns?"

I wonder how he feels about pilots being allowed to carry a firearm on an aircraft? FFDO's are the last lines of defense to prevent a 9/11 type tragedy. He's on a slippery slope.

Should people be allowed to own land mines, fuly opperational tanks, grenade launchers, shoulder launched missles, C4 explosives, fully armed fighter planes, bombs of any size, nuclear material, chemical weapons....?

I think you may want to ask the people in Syria who are getting massacred by Assad's forces while the do nothing UN parades around the middle East shaking hands with dictators.

They are on their own and your shopping list would probably be a welcome gift.

I am not asking the people in Syria, Iraq, Bermuda or any where else. I am asking you (and other on this site) about the people in the US.

Ms Tree,

Should people be allowed to own land mines?
The word "people" does not imply a US citizen. You said, people.

It would be very difficult for me to buy the items on your grocery list at my local gun shop and irrelevant to the debate on gun control.

My apology. Ill try and be more specific next time. I know they not available at your local store, what I am asking is if you think they should be available in your local store in the US? I do not beleive it is irrelavant. When you answer I will explain why.

Too bad someone at the theater wasn't carrying, leagally. Could have prevented a lot of loss !

I'm sure if these psychos thought a few of their intended victims might be packing, they'd think twice about things !

Should we have gunfights in movie theaters?

Should we allow a senior citizen in an internet cafe with a gun permit to shoot thugs?

I applaud him for standing his ground in the State of Florida.

Guarantee those 2 thugs won't be sticking up any more internet cafe"s !

I'm going to make a ridiculous statement like the one you made about bombs, tanks and fighter aircraft !

Knives need to be outlawed..................You will only be able to purchase "Sporks" at a store..................except for criminals............they'll have the real knives !
