NewsFlash..seeing this is plastered all over the media, maybe we can discuss our views on the topic.

What are your thoughts on Canada condoning same sex marriages?

Some “pollâ€￾ says that we are split as Canadians in our opinion, (who the heck does these polls anyway, have any of you been polled on this).
I think the politicians should not be the deciding factor here, their track record is pretty darn poor in deciding what's good for Canada ! They have no doubt been cajoled and plagued to death by parliaments professional badgers, too boot!

The only way to get an honest decision is, it should be voted on as a national public referendum!

My opinion... I’m opposed to same sex marriage, it’s between a man and a woman only, to borrow someone’s quip.. "marriage is for Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve".

Be nice.........

I am also opposed, and couldn''t agree more with the referendum idea. Apparently it will be up to pastors to decide whether or not to wed same sex couples in thier particular parish, but there are still JPs...

An interesting discussion came up about this at work, and it was brought up that the legalization of marijuana happened in the same month. God keep our land glorious and free.....

Lemme see if I''ve got this weed thing right. It''s illegal to grow and sell the stuff, but possession will you get a slap on the wrist with a $150.00 fine and no criminal record. It''s legal to grow and sell tobacco, but in some provinces - notably NS - it''s illegal to smoke in a public place and the fine is $2000.00 and/or six months in the slam with the criminal record that entails.
That could only make sense to a politician.

As for the other thing, ain''t none of my business if they like their vice versa. Long as I''m not asked to participate. ''Course I saw a movie the other day, and I think I''ve become a lesbian. The two ladies weren''t doing anything I wouldn''t do.

Why can''t any two consenting adults be married? The government has been forced to recognize same sex partners in terms of benefits and pensions. I don''t see why people are against this? Can those against it explain why they think its so wrong? I mean if the two people love each other and decide to make a commitment, why not be married? Marriage is an affermation of the bond two people are making to each other.

In other words...it''s the same as two pilots getting married to each other

....and the next topic for discussion will beeeee....same sex divorces

Like ''flythenumbers'' and the late Pierre Eliot Trudeau, I don''t believe the government (or you and I) has any business in the bedrooms of the nation. I do believe, though, that the business of the bedroom should be banned from public places. ''Gay pride'' and all of its insistence on public recognition and status is nothing less than the undermining of the moral standards and fiber of western society.

Remember that the Reform Party, predecessors to the Alliance, strongly advocated referenda on important issues like this. Also remember that, as long as the Progresssive Conservatives resist collaborating with the Alliance, the Liberals will stay in power and there will be ''dictatorship by election.'' Get after your local PC and Alliance organizations and let them know you demand they provide you with a viable alternative to the Liberals. There''s no hope until that happens, Paul Martin, John Manley or (God forbid even more) Sheila Copps notwithstanding.

Once I saw this post, I needed to join and voice my opinion.

If you want to instill your values upon other people do it in your own little cult and let people live their lives the way they want to. This country is based on freedoms and thusly should afford every one of us the freedom to do as we choose.
Now I don''t appreciate the flaunting of anyones religion, sexual preference or eccentric tastes anymore than the next guy, but it is their right to choose the path that they want to lead in their lives.
Want to instill some of your own values? Have children and brainwash them to be followers of your views and not leaders of their own.

I am not sure how to take this statement. I do agree that people don''t need to run up and down the street screaming "I''m a Homosexual, I''m a homosexual." I mean, I don''t run up and down the street screaming "I''m a heterosexual, I''m a heterosexual." But at the same time, events like Pride raise awarness of gays and hopefully allow them some acceptence by general society. Its often ignorance and lack of exposure that breeds bigotry and hatred. As such, I don''t believe they erode the moral fiber of society anymore than the free love era of the 60''s, or the drug induced haze of the 70''s did. If anything, I think they raise the moral standard of the western world, compared to other nations that are far more intollerant.

I have gay friends that are just normal people and as such, I have stopped thinking of their sexual preference as defining their identity. Its kinda like women in the work place: when the first female doctors started to show up, they were defined as ''female doctors'' today they are just doctors. In my opinion, this is where the attitudes of gays and lesbians needs to get too. After all, its estimated that in the human poplulation, about 10-20% of people have ''gay/lesbian'' tendencies. (Yes, its that high according to certain studies.)
