Saudi's make shape the middle east

A valid point. How ever, Jordan, Syria, and Lebenon were also involved in that a$$ kicking as well. So I think there is a little more too it than that.

Lebanon, what part did they play?
I don't remember them in the briefing as I sat on the tarmac at Pope waiting to board a C5A. 😛

Jordan is pretty much out of the loop now and Syria is another wild card that is trying to take over/influence Lebanon.

The Yom Kippur War was another missed opportunity where if we supported the Israelis’, we would not have these troubles today.

You are right; we would not have 'these' troubles today. Rather, we would have a host of 'other,' more severe problems that would include being a more prominent terrorist target.

Well, your 'conjecture' is as unproven as is mine.
I disagree with yours, you disagree with mine, but it is all hypothetical.
We helped OBL (Al Qaeda) in Afghanistan against the Russians.
We kicked Iraq out of Kuwait (and did not demand land nor tribute).
For our efforts, (Because the nut-cases did not like us infidels’ in their holy-land) Al Qaeda (OBL and his lackeys) decide to make us a terrorist target. On 911 most all Arab/Islamic countries were dancing in the streets shouting how great it was that we were attacked as some kind of great justice for supporting Israel and defiling thier holy-land. (BTW, if you haven’t noticed, almost every freaking city and region in the Arab world is considered ‘holy-land’).

JMHO, our only fault was not kicking their a$$ sooner, and the longer we wait, the worse it will get.

You are coorect. Lebanon was not involved.

Israel overcame the initial Syrian and Egyptian attack and went on to win in 1973, without having to resort to the nuclear option, only due to massive American armaments airlift.

True, we helped them in every way possible before putting US boots on the ground. But if we had, then our commitment would be a bit more solid than it is today and the combined forces would have been undefeatable.

We are still in the same situation of 'support expectations' and although we have committed resources to the Israelis’ (as we have done with many nations), we have not put boots on the ground in their support (except in the delivery and support of our Patriot missiles in the Gulf War).

There is also the aspect that the Israelis’ do not want our direct involvement as they feel they are capable of taking care of themselves and our involvement may appear protectorate more so than support. Considering our ‘fluid’ (USA) commitments to global situations and politics, this hypothesis may be the correct one for them.

And without a doubt,Ivan would have done the same and then time for the big A.

As I recall, the Russians did bank roll the Arabs. I could have sworn that in the "Dog Fight" series on Discovery the othernight the Arabs were flying Migs against the Israelies. It was almosrt like a proxy war between Russia and the US. We just bet on the winning horse.

Thats pretty much the way it is anytime anywhere in the world there is war.

My point was if we put boots on the ground...so would Ivan 😉

I doubt it, but there is no way to prove it.
We were only hours away to make our commitment before the Egyptians’ did their dance.

Wonder what Ivan told them?
Something like ‘Yer on your own Pal…’ 😛
