What's new

Sickouts this Xmas

Though I am on reserve I don't believe that all the benefits of being a blockholder should be stripped. Sure, I do agree that the system is way to complicated and to much bidding but wouldn't YOU want the same benefits if you were a blockholder? Just because the bottom half of the company sitting reserve is in misery and definately needs fixed does not mean to cast ill will or hatred towards our other coworkers. We are working under a contract that was negotiated. Granted a bad one but one negotiated and voted on. NOW, we are in a position to fix the system slowly however with negotiations on a new contract. As a group it is in our best interest to retain the best of what we have. Not throw either the reserve or blockholder under the bus. I know it seems that we get screwed as reserves but screwing the blockholder so we become the screwed when we hold blocks is NOT the answer. The only reason people look at senior people at an airline with disgust is due to the seniority list. YOU will be the more senior flight attendant someday. Are there some that need to go and have a VERY fowl, uneducated attiude about work in general and reserves? ABSOLUTELY! ! ! ! Do we have reserves who act in the exact same manner? ABSOLUTELY. The blockholder is only working under the contract voted and agreed on between AFA and the company. The system is broken and needs fixed like yesterday.
Trav,

Thank you. A voice of reason. I agree this reserve system is horrible, and am very lucky to not have a problem living under it. I live in base, I very much enjoy having half the month off and receiving a 90 hour paycheck, and have seen no slowdown of my ETB activity whatsoever.

That said, we need to channel our frustrations towards management and negotiations at this point. This reserve system will not change until we negotiate a new one. Period. Instead of slamming the BH's and telling them to retire, we should be staying involved with what the JNC is doing. MF will tell you exactly what is happening with each day of negotiations.

109,

I would also like to know what purpose it will serve to run to the office screaming with a list of BH's that called in sick for Xmas? Will that get you off reserve faster? Will that just make you feel better? We can call in sick 4 times per year, no questions asked, and if the company feels the need to require a note, they can certainly do that. Nobody likes a nark. But do whatcha got to do!

It's called keeping people in check. Sometimes, it has to be done. Trust me, I don't need to run into the office and you won't find me screaming, unless it's at you for being lazy on my crew. Show up, do your job the way it was devloped for us, and I don't care if you are a BH or RSV. Too well trained for that petty stuff. I don't really care if I get off RSV soon. It has never been about being on RSV over 17 years. I just don't appreciate a BH, who can't hold Christmas off, jerking a RSV, who would most likely have had it off, and now has to fly. To call in sck because you couldn't hold Christmas off is pathetic. You sound like a person who doesn't mind screwing your fellow employees. That is very sad and bitter. But do what you have to do and live with it. If it doesn't bother you to do that to fellow emplyees, that cool. I just couldn't do it.

No sickout is going to happen. Let's deal with management through negotiations, not sickouts. Stay informed....

I do stay informed...and it was said by ramp in PHL....so maybe you should stay informed by what the ramp in PHL is talking about.

Since when are you, sir, a line FA, responsible for keeping me "in check?" {{Nark}}

You are "too well trained for that petty stuff?" We are all trained equally.

You say "it has never been about being on RSV for 17 years?" Huh? What? Then what has it been about? Have I missed something? You are now fine with that? I'll pass that on to the AFA for you....

I am a RSV, my friend, and I do hold Xmas off, so no worries about me calling in sick. Have never and would never screw a fellow employee, EVER (and that includes never being a "BH tattle- tale"). Actually, I would not even consider it was my responsibility to "keep people in check." I work, do my job professionally, go home, and that's that.

"Sad and bitter?" What are you basing this on?

What are you saying I am doing to my fellow employees? Have another one, and buy me a round.

Channel your anger, 109.

I also heard the PHL ramp was going to "shut the place down" for Thanksgiving. Still waiting for that to happen. Take what you hear with a grain o' salt......

Maybe you don't need it, less work for me. Thanks.

Some just apply their traing better than others ans I know you see that out on line.

You don't have to pass anything on to them, I talk to them all the time. I have them on speeddial. I try to keep them in check also. Something about broken promises bothers me. I was fine with the old RSV system, you know the one, where we actually could use our senoirity, or has it been so long, you forgot about that system.

Good, we need more people like you, I guess. Just keep up the good work, thanks.

Just some of your comments. It was just an observation, that's all.

What are you saying I am doing to my fellow employees? Have another one, and buy me a round.
Anytime, I buy for fellow employees all the time. I had a few bought for me along the way, so I like to pay it forward.

Channel your anger, 109.
I did get some help with that at one time. lol.

109,
I certainly have not forgotten about our past seniority privileges, nor have I forgotten about the endless broken promises. What I also have not forgotten about is the fact that we need to be involved in tense negotiations with this company, as we are in the fight of our lives. More FA's need to pay attention, and more need to become involved. We need to elect strong, passionate people into the office, and support them in their battles! Anyone have some strong ones in mind? B)

We definately agree on that point. Elections are just around the corner. Maybe we should do what Philly did, a wholesale sweep. Get new, passionate blood in there. They may not have the knowledge as others, but that can be learned. As long as they are passionate about all levels of seniority. We'll have to see who's name gets put in the hat.

The firm's survey, released this week, showed 32 percent of workers said they called in sick when they felt fine at least once in the last year, and one in 10 said they did so three times or more.

I am sure the survey includes "at-will" employees including managment personnel. Senior managment...just calls off when they have something "family" to do. Who would check them? During the Xmas eve and Xmas day, 2004, there was any senior management to be found or able to contact.

Bob is correct. There was NO orchestrated "sick-out" in PHL during xmas in 2004.

The Christmas Meltdown of 2004 can be attributed to ONE Moron by the name of Al Crellin. As much as I hated to see the pax be inconvenienced, the working employees subjected to ugly situations, it Did accomplish one thing........it let the Nation know what a Dirty Rotten Collective Bunch of B*stards that were running USAirways. (And a GOVERNMENT REPORT SUBSTANTIATED IT!) Most of the working people had little to do with it but were Blamed for IT!

That Meltdown along with NWA's fiasco in the Blizzard of the '90s are classic cases of P*ss Poor Management at the helm of Major Companies. They had US believe you needed to pay Top Dollar to retain Top Talent- well when all was said and done, THEY did make TOP Dollar Wages but thier Management prowess wouldn't get them a spot on "The Gong Show"........they S-U-C-K-E-D!(Half of them wouldn't know their *ss from a hole in the ground  )

Corporate America, is totally dysfunctional, there is no accountability for bad or disasterous decisions or taking responsibility for them. How do you justify being rewarded for bankrupting a company as an example.

(intentional misspelling) 'Psycophants R US'
could be a new moniker.
Old US "MO" that I hope we got rid of. Reeks of Crellin. However, I am not so sure it has been exterminated with the "New boss" (same as the old boss? Only slightly different.)
I believe ol' jag off did get a undeserved retention bonus that year.
BOD are to blame. Must have been Pissin' themselves.
Not up to the task, so much for grace under pressure.
Crellin should have resigned long ago and would have done everyone a favor. Well, it's apparent where his loyalties lie. Equivalent of the lowliest of "union scum" on a management level. Morally bankrupt. (not to be interpreted as a negative to unions or their membership.)(Aw, come on, we've all known someone that has worked harder at getting out of doing the work than actually doing the task at hand.)
