Trav,Though I am on reserve I don't believe that all the benefits of being a blockholder should be stripped. Sure, I do agree that the system is way to complicated and to much bidding but wouldn't YOU want the same benefits if you were a blockholder? Just because the bottom half of the company sitting reserve is in misery and definately needs fixed does not mean to cast ill will or hatred towards our other coworkers. We are working under a contract that was negotiated. Granted a bad one but one negotiated and voted on. NOW, we are in a position to fix the system slowly however with negotiations on a new contract. As a group it is in our best interest to retain the best of what we have. Not throw either the reserve or blockholder under the bus. I know it seems that we get screwed as reserves but screwing the blockholder so we become the screwed when we hold blocks is NOT the answer. The only reason people look at senior people at an airline with disgust is due to the seniority list. YOU will be the more senior flight attendant someday. Are there some that need to go and have a VERY fowl, uneducated attiude about work in general and reserves? ABSOLUTELY! ! ! ! Do we have reserves who act in the exact same manner? ABSOLUTELY. The blockholder is only working under the contract voted and agreed on between AFA and the company. The system is broken and needs fixed like yesterday.
Thank you. A voice of reason. I agree this reserve system is horrible, and am very lucky to not have a problem living under it. I live in base, I very much enjoy having half the month off and receiving a 90 hour paycheck, and have seen no slowdown of my ETB activity whatsoever.
That said, we need to channel our frustrations towards management and negotiations at this point. This reserve system will not change until we negotiate a new one. Period. Instead of slamming the BH's and telling them to retire, we should be staying involved with what the JNC is doing. MF will tell you exactly what is happening with each day of negotiations.
109,
I would also like to know what purpose it will serve to run to the office screaming with a list of BH's that called in sick for Xmas? Will that get you off reserve faster? Will that just make you feel better? We can call in sick 4 times per year, no questions asked, and if the company feels the need to require a note, they can certainly do that. Nobody likes a nark. But do whatcha got to do!
