Sickouts this Xmas

RSV's aren't here because a BH doesn't want to work. What a concept. Why should a RSV have to pay for some idiots screw up. Just like last year with the weekend obligation. BH's couldn't drop any 1 days on Christmas weekend. They had put them on the ETB all month, but noone would pick them up. Then they just called in sick for them. Luckily. I had printed off a list of those trips and handed it in to the office, to compare sick calls with. Always good to give a heads up, just incase we have a problem.
Ok, all, we can officially call N109UW a nark! We have a tattle- tale in CLT!!!! Heads up!

IF a block holder calls off sick, then a reserve is used as a replacement. Doesn't matter if it is a holiday or not. Doesn't matter if they are sick or not. As a reserve that is what we are here for. Sometimes is sucks and sometimes it is pretty cool.

No doubt, it is irresponsible for somebody to call off sick just because it is a holiday; especially when they know that a lot of FAs will be calling out and it will stress the reserve system.

The company will either crack down on them or not. The block holders are only playing by the rules the company sets.

Myself, I know I will be flying over Christmas. I am a low reserve and it is a given. My hope is that it is not a quick call in the middle of a snow storm! =)

Any sickout during the holidays is irresponsible. In my case, the only way I would not come into work is if I was SERIOUSLY ill or part of a legal job action.

Since it doesn't appear that I will have to deal with the latter (since we are hopefully going to vote on our CBA very soon), all I need to do is stay healthy and get plenty of rest in between shifts.

Poor staffing and bad weather are the only things US should have to worry about this holiday season. Thanksgiving seems to have gone quite well (much to my surprise - it's nice to be wrong once in a while), and I now believe December will be the same.

I was a flight attendant from 89 till 96. I know the reserve contracts are differnet know. But, I looked forward to the holiday season because it was the only time I flew! I was often sent to SAN and LAX for many holidays. I was even rushed trained on the BAE 146!

Since, I never met my guarantee for at least two years. I looked forward to my HOLIDAY trips just for the per diem.

I know things have changed a lot since 96, but I used to rely on sick calls just to get ahead. A four day trip would give me an extra 150.00 on my paycheck.

That's right, Little Buddy. I am your worst nightmare. A good employee, who comes to work and does their job, the way i t is supposed to be done. I am not here to screw the people junior to me, unlike yourself. It is sad to be you, I guess. Just come to work, when you are supposed to and try to have a good attitude atleast. Pretend like you really want to be here. I've been here too long to put up with anyones crap, senior or junior to me. I don't let myself get screwed by senior folks and I don't screw the ones below me. They deserve better. But that's right, as you say " RSV's have it so good"

You're also the first US person I've read on the boards I think I might like to work with. Good attitude. Keep it up!

Thanks, I just don't believe in jerking my fellow employees. There are alot of people on this side who only care about themselves. Sure, we have been through hell and back, but that should only make us stronger. They RSV's on the East side are probably some of our best F/A's. They have suffered more than our senior group. It's been over 3 years since they have put this new LTO system in for the RSV's and in that time I have never broken 57 hours on company time. That means alot of sitting and giving up days off for a decent paycheck. I must really like my job, and most of the people.

If anyone thinks this LTO reserve system "works for them" great. You must live a minimalist lifestyle. If you are a single parent or have pressing responsibilities this system makes it EXTREMELY hard to make ends meet. The ETB cannot be used like it was intended due to the 24/7 rule being applied. There is NO WAY you are picking up trips on your days off as you may have before this rule started. People should NOT have to contemplate leaving. The system should be fixed NOW. It's not a case of deal with or or leave. Showing support for this LTO reserves system is irresponsible on anyones part. Shame on you for having low standards for your job. PS....N109 you certainly DO have a great attitude. Not much of that going around.

I had N109UW on a flight once(he was non reving ) and he is a smart and great guy. He knows what he is talking about and he is behind the reserves %100. There most likely will be alot of sick calls over the holiday from block holders. All anyone needs to do is look at the ETB board and see how many are trying to drop the x-mas trips....ALOT! Today is the 11th and I have not flown yet! And I am not the only one! I had myself on the quick call list for days..and still did not get called!!! Its just not fair to sit all month and then Dec 23rd or 24th have to do a 4 day because some senior flight attendant did not want to work x-mas because they messed up when they were bidding!
I wont comment so much on the ramps plans this year for the holiday...because I have heard the same thing. They did such a great job for Thanksgiving...I hope they dont go MAD on x-mas...thats not fair to the the people trying to visit family...what if it is someone coming home for a holiday visit from Iraq? How mean and selfish.

Just my 2 cents! 🙂

Isn't that what reserves are for? When people call in sick? As long as you aren't burning all of your reserves and having to junior man line holders, who cares?

quote] suck it up BH. If you weren't so selfish, you would have retired when you were making "real" money. Instead, you chose to stay, and now you have to grab every trip there is, leaving us RSV with nothing!
Guess what? You are going to "fly" uour ROME or wethever trip you got for the holidays!
In a way, GOD is on our (RSV) side

What? Who are you to say who should retire? Another completely uninformed RSV...

Glad to hear that God is on your side, sounds like you're gonna need him...

No sickout is going to happen. Let's deal with management through negotiations, not sickouts. Stay informed....

Though I am on reserve I don't believe that all the benefits of being a blockholder should be stripped. Sure, I do agree that the system is way to complicated and to much bidding but wouldn't YOU want the same benefits if you were a blockholder? Just because the bottom half of the company sitting reserve is in misery and definately needs fixed does not mean to cast ill will or hatred towards our other coworkers. We are working under a contract that was negotiated. Granted a bad one but one negotiated and voted on. NOW, we are in a position to fix the system slowly however with negotiations on a new contract. As a group it is in our best interest to retain the best of what we have. Not throw either the reserve or blockholder under the bus. I know it seems that we get screwed as reserves but screwing the blockholder so we become the screwed when we hold blocks is NOT the answer. The only reason people look at senior people at an airline with disgust is due to the seniority list. YOU will be the more senior flight attendant someday. Are there some that need to go and have a VERY fowl, uneducated attiude about work in general and reserves? ABSOLUTELY! ! ! ! Do we have reserves who act in the exact same manner? ABSOLUTELY. The blockholder is only working under the contract voted and agreed on between AFA and the company. The system is broken and needs fixed like yesterday.

But will Tommorrow ever come? I hope it gets here fast! I say a side letter about Rotating Reserve is what we need now! Then we can all see how the other half lives, from time to time!
