For those of you who think me to be a TOTAL "bleeding heart Liberal",...........read THIS.

When these CLOWNS approach a ship from a non muslim country(In International waters), why don't these respective Governments(after the obligatory "shot across their bow") have their F-16's(and virtually every democratic country has the F-16 from us),........HIT these "High speed ROW-BOATS" with a missile, and "Emulsify" it ???

As for the muslim countries, if religious dialog fails, resort to "plan B"

????

Leave it to the Sopranos and the garbage empire.Where's the UN while all this is going on....isn't there a world court?
Somalia has been a member since 1960.
I bet in the third world where most of our goods are made...there is rampant global pollution via toxic waste dumping in rivers and oceans.

Still...they start 'jackin ships...the man be comin' their way.

I saw pic's of the ransom drop and they were from USN.

I read there's a hit coming down on the pirate base of ops soon.

And it really isn't a US problem......Clinton ran from Somalia.....maybe that didn't help either.

As long as Somalia remains a lawless state this problem will continue. Even with the incresing presence of Naval vessels off the coast there is always going to be someone who is willing to risk it.

With that said if enough pressure is put on them with increased patrols and more of them getting arrested or blown up it might make the waters off Somalia a little safer. I think we are seeing this problem getting more attention from the nations of the world.

This would be my answer to approaching pirate boats.

Phalanx

The navy does have some of their CIWS equipped with cameras capable of engaging surface targets. All Navy vessels operating in that part of the world have 25mm chain guns along with .50 cal to deal with small surface targets. Here's a picture of a pirate boat at the receiving end of a 25mm cannon.

Looks like its been updated.....

Block 1B Phalanx Surface Mode (PSUM) incorporates a side mounted Forward Looking Infrared Radar (FLIR) which enables CIWS to engage low slow or hovering aircraft and surface craft. Additionally, the FLIR assists the radar in engaging some ASCM’s bringing a greater chance of ship survivability. Block 1B uses a thermal imager Automatic Acquisition Video Tracker (AAVT) and stablilization system that provide surface mode and electro-optic (EO) angle track. These Block 1B enhancements will allow day/night detection capability and enable the CIWS to engage small surface targets, slow-moving air targets, and helicopters.
