The euphoria is in the air. The system is buzzing. Per Flagship news, the Diversity Strategies teams will soon be traveling the system to hear you diversity experience. Before you throw away that pink slip, celebrate the moment.

Well, I've said all along that the reason we were in such financial distress was the lack of a Diversity Strategy. And here we are getting multiple strategies! (I'm assuming that since the name of the team is Diversity Strategies). All is well. There will be no layoffs. Little Sheba will come home.

I almost choked on my iced tea. That was funny Jim!

Was there a recent lawsuit or something from the EEOC that prompted AA to increase their diversity efforts? I know most of you are thinking this is just some corporate joke, however, companies have to take diversity seriously or face some serious fines, etc. AA has been recognized by both the black and latino communities many times so I'm surprised to see this.

Amazingly, in my opinion, one airline that did a poor job of touting diversity was Delta. Just a few short years ago, both the CFO & CMO were women. Amazing in an old Southern company hellbent on heritage quite frankly.

I don't know that I would want to identify myself as a member of any "diverse" group to a company like AA. There have just been too many nitemares (not to mention lawsuits) regarding discrimination for my taste. Even if half of them aren't warranted, the fact that employees are left to feel like they are speaks volumes.

Diversity programs are nothing more than another source of revenue to AA. They have separate websites for hispanic, gay/lesbian, etc., just for specific marketing to get the buck. Not that it's a totally bad idea, but in order for people to really believe their employer sees them as equal, they have to cut out this crap of identifying minorities as anything other than hired labor, and treat everyone equally.

Besides, there are some areas of AA where caucasian is the minority - is there a diversity "club" or "team" for them?

I didn't think so.

Certainly... and no, there isn't a special club, team or targeted marketing campaign to represent their interests...

ITS was a pretty good example for quite a while, but that may have stabilized. If you narrow down that to straight caucasian male under retirement age, the list of areas where you're a minority increases quite a bit....

There was a two or three year period not too far back where if you weren't able to check off a box on the diversity questionaire, applying to be a general manager was pretty much a lost cause. I know a lot of good people who left (and continue to leave) AA as a result of that. It certainly played in my decision to look elsewhere...

Fortunately, my kids don't have to suffer for the sin of my great grandparents being born in Europe. My wife holds a Certified Degree of Indian Blood card, and so do my kids.

I'd much rather that my wife and kids didn't have to pull out the card at all, but unfortunately, it's still more important and meaningful to a college admissions board or a military academy application than things like an outstanding GPA, earning Eagle Scout, etc.

I didn't think so.

As I recall, there was an attempt at a caucasion resource group some years ago. It quickly went away for some reason.

Besides - as you point out re: marketing, the white, not retired yet, straight fellow seems to have the least expendable income of all groups AA wants to cozy up to. Why pay them any mind at all?

I'd much rather that my wife and kids didn't have to pull out the card at all, ............

Wife , kids, and not a pilot or mechanic?

You surely were a minority at this or any airline.

My favorite was AA permitting it's trademark and hotlinkling to be done at a gay rodeo website right next to the link for hardcore gay porn.

I would be drawn and quartered if I did anything close to that in this Romper Room.

....and how do you suppose the "porn" felt having to be hotlinked right next to AA? Why, I'll bet they pulled their advertising after that!

Dunno. Probably thought their business practices were pretty similar. One is at least honest with itself on how it operates

I flew AF last month. Their inflight mag actually had ads for three strip clubs, including one which claimed to have the best lap dance in Paris.... The ads next to these were for small family restaurants and hotels. I'm sure they were thrilled as well.

Mach, married with children was a minority in several parts at HDQ as well...

You know, out of all the flights I've had on AF, and I've had more than a few, I've yet to have one that was pleasant. Something always seems to go wrong.

And . . . is it just me or do all AF planes have a distinct "odor" to them? Seems like all their aircraft stink for one reason or another, not to mention there always seems to be at least one FA on board that is both painted up, and smells, like a French whore. I know that sounds bad and in fact, it's not a very nice thing to say but check me if I'm wrong please. Someone needs to clue-in both French women and men that it's perfume or cologne . . . not douche!

Either that or I have an overly sensitive schnozz!
