Some Things Never Change

Baggage doors...who needs 'em anyway. Think of how much more stuff you could put in there if you left them open and used the CHL cargo nets to secure everything in it's place. Sure, they'd be big bulky messes of dirty treeplanter clothes, but they'd have a nice spring fresh smell and if your lucky it'd rain and wash them.

P.S. Better a baggage door than a tail rotor huh 407D??? (I'm going to run and hide now.  )

precisely what are you trying to say?

Since I don't know who you are, you could be giving me a pat on the back, a slap across the face, or a friendly poke...

What I can tell you, is that I have never had a tail rotor depart my aircraft.

I have had numerous tough, fidgety tail rotors that were difficult to balance. I have had numerous tail rotor strikes that had to be taken care of after pilots hit trees, muskeg, and one time, a loose bolt from a cowling. And on one occasion, early on in my career, I was asked to dual an installation of a tail rotor and failed to notice that the lockwasher was bent in the same direction of both sides. So if I want to talk about tailrotors...I'm going to, end of story.

Hey Mag,

Lets talk about the time when you had all those unshaven hairy treeplanters in your tent...That was a party..( Yes, I told them to shower first)

Hey, I have no beef with Maggies Tailrotor doings!!! He keep me safe for years!!!!

PS... Ask 407 if he is fighting fires yet, or getting plans to build an Arc?????

You told them to shower? If that was showered.....????

So, to change the topic a bit...is it pretty wet out west? I saw the temps for edmonton today and I'm feeling sad for you guys....do you want some of our forcasted high's of 32C to come your way? Maybe they'll help dry it out and mother nature can wreak havoc on the forests again, so you can make some money...and in turn keep me busy.

Don't be talking of Arks and Floods, or God may smite you with LIGHTNING...Oh right, He did that LAST NIGHT !!! 😀

407D's first high in life....flying helicopters.....

his second...Tampa Bay winning the cup....

Are you ever going to stop smiling??? 😀

Don't forget the first day with those beautiful young Blonde twins... my 2 GOLDEN RETRIEVERS that is 😀

Mag it wasn't a personal shot at you, as I don't know you, however it was a shot at the machine you so often deffend. They have had their fair share of mishaps.

all is forgiven. I've learned to love they fellow aviators....(except a few ornary b*astards)

Isn't ironic for a Bell 407 pilot to be critisizing a Eurocopter product???!! That's kind of like the sewer rat calling the Bald Eagle a sh-t hawk, yes ?????

Jetbox, the FACTS are that Astars have shed cargo doors, most operators have added some type of auxiliary latch assembly. So tell me why EC doesn't design a cargo door for the B4 that is safe? Same problem, 26 years later ???

I don't recall where the 407's history was included in this thread?

For the record, , I Personally have never lost any parts off of my 407, my company has yet to loose any, and I believe no one in Canada has. To my knowlege, there have been 3 tailboom incidents ( 0 persons killed) worldwide with over 600 aircraft and 1,000,000 + hours.

Was the Astar start-up in 1978 that safe and successful ??????

407, you are absolutely right abour Astars and cowlings/doors. But they are not the only ones. I seem to recall the 204's needing extra latches, 212's with doors departing in flight (sliding). 212 cross tubes collapsing under me, etc. And you really don't want to go back to 1978 and the introduction of a new type.....remember when the 206 came out, chucking blades. Ask some of the old timers, damn near put Jack and Ted out of business. Aerospat has had it's share of problems, but one thing they seem able to do is keep their blades attached. Bell, Sikorsky, Hiller, Hughes, etc can't say that. Hope everyone has a safe summer
