Just heard from a reliable source! Southwest is making a bid for Delta. WN decided instead of expanding, it would be easier to just buy Delta. Sources quoted in Dallas that first the ATL hub will go domestic only, JFK will be sold to AA, MSP and DTW will probably be dismantled. SLC will be sold to UAL. DL mgmt decided they cant compete with the the new AA, an announcment will be made later today.

Horton, is that you?

Your business plan and understanding of the industry seems to be improving compared to your past plans.

IF Southwest buys Delta then the mechanics can use that new airline to compare their compensation to.....

False alarm, After WN reviewed DLs finances they decided not to go through with it, the revenues out of JFK were too low, the costs were too high on the Pacific routes. But they are considering taking the 737s and keeping the main hubs. Will have to wait and see. This from an even better source the ORD crew fa crew lounge. One of the ORD intl fas is dating a WN vice president.

couldn't have thought of a better plan if I had tried.... best use of choice US aviation assets.

Afterall, the 744s and 333s ARE the best suited aircraft to maximize WN's growth potential at DAL and MDW. The 744s also will work great to move pax thru EWR w/ WN's limited space while the 764s will do the trick at LGA. Make them all 15 abreast and they should be able to seat 800, 600, and 400 respectively, esp. if you get rid of those wasteful business and economy minus cabins that just take up room and minimize the number of FAs that the planes COULD carry.

You are right about thé int'l costs.. .but that is why the E175s are in the fleet. Combined with Korean and Air France's A380s, they are all the international fleet DL needs.

Plus it will prove the APA right in that DL ALPA gave away scope and is going to come back and bite them in the...paycheck.

Well, yeah. But, AMR management and the TWU International will point that even though the M&R starting pay at the new airline is $10/hr higher than yours, those new hires over there will be forced to take a month's vacation every year--no exceptions. You wouldn't want that, would you?
