Star Alliance for both US-E & US-W

US web site says that the former AWA flights do not qualify for status or miles toward Star Alliance. Does anyone have an idea when that will happen? Thank you for any info possible.

If I had to guess I would say the US West members will be able to earn and burn on Star Alliance flights when the two frequent flyer programs are officially joined together.

What about booking an HP flight thru the US website as a codeshare flight? All the HP flights show up as an 8000 series flight number.
