Hi gang--

Seems like this forum doesn't get much attention, but I wanted to see if someone has info on Stardusters. I'm considering buying a pre-built aircraft, as they are extremely affordable and are capable of "gentlemanly" aerobatics. Plus you can't go wrong with a tailwheel!

I want to know about handling, shortcomings, or other general advice. Any one out there with clues?

Thanks,
Eagleflip

The Starduster is a fun airplane. I've flown one a couple of times.

Just depends on what you're going to use the airplane for. I'm assuming you want two seats, and if that's the case, it's hard to beat a Pitts S-2B for an all-around good aerobatic biplane. There are plenty on the market, and parts are readily available (although expensive) from the factory. Best advantage is that there are many around the country for rent so that you can get instruction, acro, and spin training in type.

Only drawbacks are luggage space (that's what UPS and Fed Ex are for), landing (the Pitts is tricky for the inexperienced), and the canopy. WATCH OUT FOR THE CANOPY!!! People seem to lose 2-place Pitts canopies like they're going out of style - almost always due to pilot error. Replacement canopies are expensive, and many insurance policies have canopy restrictions, or such high deductibles on canopies that you might as well just buy it outright.

Anyway, I used to own an S-1 and it was a great little airplane.

Just my opinion.
