Hey Guys,

Just another topic to get the board going. Was wondering what the state of the various segments of the canadian industry are like at the moment. I know the logging is pretty slow but whats happening elsewhere in seismic, offshore etc.

CTD....I thought RDM was a flight attendant on Cougar 1.

407 Driver....I lost 2 pounds past year so lay off the fat jokes...eh!!

Now to get back on topic ....check out the pic in the gallery, web funnies section.
Sorry RDM, couldn't resist!!

407 verrrry clever , better take it easy on the altitude or adjust the temp. in the hottub

Right now fires are a little cold, but expected to warm up in the near future, before cooling off in the fall.

*The ski industry is still strong, but only for the hard-core clients, day-skiing is way down.
*The general back-country tourism (mountain huts, etc) have suffered this winter, with the 2 big avalanches, and the threat of war.
*BC forest industries are non existent, *Mining in BC....HA HA HA, Ya right! nada
*BCFS has scaled back to a few offices and people, I suspect that there will be low Admin flying with them,
*BCFS protection remains untouched, but they won''t put anyone or anything on minumums until the entire country is ablaze.
*Our flight seeing was WAY down last year, nobody travelling.

Logging on the BC Coast is steady, no real increase or decrease in flying from last year. BCFS enforcement budget and flying is cut way back, no more during the job courtesy/enforcement visits, just a final visit & charges or kudos to the companies.
Rumours of mining/exploration getting sparked up a bit in the NW for a few 500''s, but nothing definite.
heli-skiing same as 407''s note.....

yet the back of "vertical" and "helicopters" have the most want ads i have ever seen for meduim crews...where did you all go boys???

Watch it Rotorhead, that''s dangerous for a chubby little white-boy like yourself, GreenPeace may try and roll you back into the water

seeing how there is such a demand for medium crews and it is getting to be that time of year, what seems to be the going rate for the thumper crews this year?

Yeah, V Ref, except the tariffs unfortunately don''t have much to do with what an operator bids on a job. The unnamed Winnipeg-St. Andrews Bell medium operator who got the only Manitoba forestry medium tendered this year did so at, essentially last year''s rate, with no increase over a 3-year deal.

Sorry, hard to remember to keep it light!

If the rates that have been surfacing for jobs between ten and two or three hundred hours are any indication, there''s a lot of hurtin'' folk out there, desperate to ''create cash flow.''

Add that reality to the amount of iron for sale or lease and the basement prices, and you don''t even have to look at the mess the world is in to see some pretty ugly handwriting on the wall.

It''s a buyer''s dream, if you can convince yourself you need to buy but, like noted above, the demand''s not too great for the foreseeable. (And did I hear someone talking about bringing more pilots into the country?)
