sounds like he is another Lorenzo but I cant imagine that the merger will go without union support

NWA customer:

"Speaks volumes of the mental aptitude of the NW BOD - the best thing they could do is give Steenland an escort out of the building and hire a new management team who actually wants to run and preserve the legacy of NW as opposed to sell out to the highest bidder - what an incredibly embarrassing and insulting legacy to all those that gave their blood, sweat, and tears to make NW the carrier it once used to be."

THIS battle is NOT in BK.

THIS battle is not with out the support of Congress.

THIS battle has the support of ALL NWA employees (except pilots)

THIS battle will teach the NWA BOD a lesson they've never learned in "Advertising" or "Hedge Fund" class. We aren't as polite as "Keep my Delta" folks.

RAnderson knows the dark-side of NW...I would be surprised to see him embrace this battle.

So why is NW so interested in being acquired by Delta?
Why are the Deal folks so confused on this? DL isn't acquiring a thing. That's why they call it a merger. Dougie and the Board are ready to deal because of the $$$. Plain and simple.

Regardless of what you call the transaction, in the combination of 2 or more companies, one always ends up being the surviving/dominant partner. All that BS about blending two cultures and taking the best from each is just that...BS.

Look to who ends up running the company after the transaction. If the majority of officers in the new company are from Company A, the merged operation will end up looking/acting/feeling/tasting like Company A. If from Company B, then the new company will really be Company B.

It will do no good for employees to start specifying at this point what they will or will not do. Employees are just an afterthought or, at best, a necessary evil, in the scope of things.

That's why they call it a merger.
Actually, "merger", is the generic term used any time companies are combined - the two separate companies merge to become one. It doesn't matter whether one company buys the other (with cash or equity), newly minted stock in the combined company is issued to replace shares of both old companies, or one/both companies are in BK and new investors get shares in the new company while old investors get the shaft (like US shareholders in the US/HP merger).

If DL and NW merge (or any two carriers), it would be a merger, but may or may not be an acquisition of one by the other except in SEC/IRS terms (plus, of course, those exec's whose "golden parachutes" are triggered by a "change of control" no matter how the deal is structured).

To a LARGE extent, this is a matter of SURVIVAL (if this ABORTION goes through), for a LOT of NW people !! (NOTE; I'm NOT at this point blaming DL) !!!

EVERY single Employee(Except Pilots) NEED to understand that they(by ANY means Necessary), must make sure that this "proposition"...NEVER EVER comes to fruition.

THIS my Red Tail friends,........................Is SERIOUS, SERIOUS SH!T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unite Like never before.

I HOPE that Jim Oberstar has been contacted ALREADY !!!!

Delta Plans 4 Way Trans Atlantic Venture

In the face of the impasse in the Delta/Northwest pilot talks, the two US carriers were instead examining the potential for a light version of a merger much more along the lines of the takeover deals completed in Europe by Air France of KLM and by Lufthansa of Swiss, said Mr Gourgeon. In both these deals the equity ownership of the respective airlines has been merged along with various corporate functions and the merged groups have sought to present a unified product offering to customers. The flying operations have been kept as separate entities, however, avoiding the highly sensitive issue of trying to merge the pilot seniority lists of separate airlines.

According to this article it looks like NW and DL might look for a combo similar to AirFrance/KLM.

(you beat me to it Jim  )

Thus, attempts to move forward with this transaction without a formal pilots agreement in place seem to be misguided and, in many ways, an act of desperation on NWA's part.

Translation, Steenland wants his money.

Delta's board of directors are scheduled to meet this thursday. Looks like things are starting to heat up again.

as usual...No matter how tough he pretends to be, how can you come to work everyday knowing that you are dispised as much as Hitler.

I personally like the JV idea. I think it is the way they should have gone before...both companies and employees get MUCH MUCH more out of the whole thing. The only ones that lose...is Steenland. A JV means he will take his leave in June (for the window of money)

Thank GOD! (don't let the door knob hitcha in your ugly buck teeth)

"Again, this publication feels that the pilots can eventually reach a mutually agreeable settlement (as occurs in virtually every airline transaction), but the concept that a formal merger agreement will expedite this is very much flawed. In fact, it could very well result in the opposite outcome desired by the companies."

This is the poisonous NW CEO/BOD mentality that employees have had to deal with for the last 5 years. A level of detached ignorance that is stupefying.

Great link, thanks!

Pardus should go down in flames for the investments they made AND their choice of words for press releases.

Question: why didn't some sharp union lawyer @ NW recognize the value of that CO golden share and convert it to real value for the unions? Sell an option or something, I don't know.

Now NW will or could just disappear and the value of that golden share goes down the drain.
