So the long arm of democracy parallels colonialism? I think the dislike some of the people have in the part of the world feel for us has a lot more to do with our support of some rather unsavory governments. Not our support for democracy as you try to imply.

Let’s look at parts of the world where we have actively supported democracy. Western Europe after WWII for example. I wonder how things would have turned out if after the war we packed up and left and old Joe Stalin had filled the power vacuum. Or how about Japan and South Korea? Do you think the USA is weaker or stronger for supporting democracy in those countries?

Now let’s say you are right. The only logical conclusion you can come to regarding George Bush’s decision to invade Iraq in 2003 is that it was wrong.

Still waiting for you to make the case that the US supporting democracy overseas has made it wreaker. If your sole argument that supporting democracy has made weaker is outsourcing then you are going to have to try harder.

How many billions of dollars of aircraft has Boeing sold to countries like Japan and South Korea? What about Western Europe? How many Americans were employed because of those sales? What about all the military equipment we have sold them over the years? Why don't you look up Ford sales in Europe?

Outsourcing works both ways my friend. Just look at the number of foreign auto companies that have production lines here in the USA. Or other foreign companies for that matter. I have a Bosch dishwasher made here in the states.

Using China and democracy it the same sentence has got to be one of the most ridiculous statements I've read on this board. News flash dell, China is not a democracy. It is a one party dictatorship. The Fed said Tuesday that it would spend a relatively small amount of money -- about $10 billion a month, economists estimate -- buying government debt. The move is designed to drive interest rates on mortgages and corporate borrowing at least a little lower and help the economy grow faster.

Gerald Celente has been quite frank and rather shocking in his predictions over the years. His latest gives one something to mull over with this reckless abandon to our debt and inflation that this current administration has trouble seeing.
With Bush tax cuts set to expire at year's end, we'll see companies reporting large profits this year to offset the rise in taxes in 2011. And of course as you can expect the Obama administration will tout these profits as proof that their skillful guidance of the economy is working. Great, but wait until the shoe drops sometime in 2011. Europe is dying and soon it will be here.

Anyone with even a basic understanding of history knows that only a fool would try and compare our situation with that of the former USSR. Along with the fact that they had an economic/political system that did not work there were many other reasons why the USSR fell apart. Reasons you do not see in the USA.

Reason one: The USSR murdered tens of millions of it's own citizens. IMHO any country that does this is doomed
to fail.

Reason two: The USSR comprised dozens of different ethnic groups. Many of who hated each other. The only
reason it was held together for so long is the iron fisted rule of people like Lenin, Stalin, Brezhnev etc.
As soon as someone loosens the reigns it all falls apart.

Reason three: The USSR spent vast resources to maintain a police state. Resources that could have been used
elsewhere but was used to fuel the gulag. Whose primary fuel was people.

Umm, you really didn't read that article did you? If you did, you would have come to a different conclusion. Your argument is missing one crucial element.
