The Budget

The question is NOT "who won." The question is "who lost?" The answer is the American people. I saw a wonderful cartoon the other day that showed what appeared to be a half eaten pie. Above the pie was "2011 Federal Government Spending: $3.66 trillion" (These numbers are approximate. I don't remember the exact numbers.)
The uneaten portion of the pie was labelled "2011 Federal Government Revenue: $2.01 Trillion." The empty portion of the pie plate was labelled "2011 Federal Government Deficit: $1.65 trillion." On the table near the pie were two tiny little crumbs from the pie crust. One was labelled "Proposed Republican spending cuts: $60billion." The other was labelled "Proposed Democratic spending cuts: $36 billion."

A pox on both their houses! Neither has the political will or guts to do what is necessary--cut spending AND raise taxes.

I saw it as well...

The budget compromise was a joke. God bless the republicans to snatch defeat in the face of victory. Boehner caved and the American people lose yet again.

A close look at the government shutdown-dodging agreement to cut federal spending by $38 billion reveals that lawmakers significantly eased the fiscal pain by pruning money left over from previous years, using accounting sleight of hand and going after programs President Barack Obama had targeted anyway.

No doubt at all, but I don't see these clowns cutting spending with new tax revenue rolling in. You just can't trust them at all.

Precisely the problem It is not possible to cut spending enough to lower the deficit significantly without goring a lot of oxen on both ranches, AND if you give them additional tax revenue, they will probably treat it like money found on the street--"no need to count this in the budge. We can go shopping at Nordstrom's instead of at Wal-Mart."

Dapoes, thanks for posting the cartoon. It's one of the best that's been done in a long time.

Its by award winning political cartoonist Michael Ramirez. He's great. You can see his other clever ones at http://www.investors.com/EditorialCartoons/

Can we call him a marxist/socialist yet?
This was posted on the White House website today.

"Spread the Wealth" is now "Shared Prosperity"

Unreal. The White House website is now inundated with Obama’s socialist filth.

What a sad, day this is for this America
