Two things.
1. The article is dated March 21, 2006 (nothing like posting old news); and
2. The pud who wrote this piece (Steve Ellis) has been pimping B6 in his columns for far too long. As mentioned at the bottom of the article, he owns stock in B6.
WN shows consistent profits. B6 makes consistent promises, not all of which are kept.
WN has made a profit for over 30 years straight, their airline has the highest percentage of unionized workers and their employees enjoy the highest wages in the entire industry.
Second WN is adding planes, B6 is selling off planes and is losing money.
Don't let the facts get in your way.

Not to take sides here, because I believe BOTH are on the right track...though they are separate tracks...but, B6 is projecting profits for the rest of the year. It's only had a couple of unprofitable quarters -- not bad in this industry.
Though B6 is selling off a handful of planes, it is doing so with just a few aircraft to slow down its pace of acquisition. B6 is still ADDING aircraft to its fleet now and for several years to come. So is SWA.

The airline graveyards are littered with planes run by folks that thought they had Southwest beat.
Jet Blue may be on the right track, but so are most of the other carriers, and they have deep pockets, and they ain't gonna buy into the Jet Blue hype.
Enjoy what you got, this is a tough business.

You have to look out for number 1 first, and then worry about your competition. If you can't keep your house in order, then someone else will end up cleaning for you. just my thoughts.......
