My fellow airline co workers Delta Air Lines has not had a strike since Harry Truman was our President It was 1947 by the UAW: Here the NMB link http://www.nmb.gov/publicinfo/airline-strikes.html

Is today the first day in 59 Years to have a walk out at DL or will the pilots take more cuts and end up like the boys in the cargo bins (Not DL employees) but Prime Flight, GAT, or World Wide Flight Service employees.

Pilots good luck.

It will not be today. They go to arbitration with the final results due on April 15th. However today is the day they announce the results of the mechanics Reductions In Force bid. We get to find out if we still have a job and where it is. Rumor has it many opted to take the furlough over relocate to one of the more expensive Line stations or demote to Technican Helper in ATL. Management is wondering why we will not demote into these 200 job openings. I think it is due to the 40% pay cut to due the same work.

Good luck Dalmd88.
My encounters with maintenance at DL have been top notch, even in BK. It is sad to see our experience being outsourced to the lowest bidder.

The results of the bid lived up to our worst fears. It took a 12/97 date to hold ATL as an AMT. I don't know the total number of involuntary furloughs, but it has to be around 600 for ATL with another 250 from outstations that were closed or downsized. I was one of the few that was willing to transfer to the Northeast so I'm keeping a job.

The "leaders" of TechOps have destroyed a very good operation here in ATL.

Lowest senority date before the current RIF was late 4/2000. There are guys at outstations with even lower dates. Most of them are high dollar places like LGA, DCA, and SFO. Historiclly we have always had a hard time staffing those stations, so there are always low time guys that get hired into them and nobody will bump them out during a RIF.

Personally for me the worst part of moving from ATL is I will miss seeing the Silverbacks beat the Timbers in our new stadium this season.

...Then it's a good thing it won't be happening!

(actually, I'm just happy that there's another USL fan on here!)

Where are you going, MD88?

I understand DL leadership has acknowledged that they have been approached multiple times re: selling TechOps and that doing so may be a part of the process to exit bankruptcy. We all know DL Tech Ops is world class and there is value in it - something DL needs to maximize in order to survive and thrive.

I'm going to BOS. Took it for many reasons. The wife and I didn't want to live in ATL without flight privs, we are just too far away from family. We both like the Northeast and I think it is a good station to ride out the shake out. I might be able to keep a job with DL there. If not I would rather live there than ATL.

As far as TechOps goes, I think the value is pretty diluted. When Ray V. was in charge the word was expand, insource, make money. With Tony it is all about shrink, outsource, cut costs. We have lost a good number of skilled workers and have walked away from acres of hangar space. Our maintenance "partners" are making a mess of our fleet and can't seem to complete a task on time. With the Avborne fiasco we are spending a lot of time and money looking for places to drop in the 88 fleet while we find an new "partner". Now we couldn't bring them back inhouse if we had too. There is no hangar space and 2/3 of the hangar workforce is gone and will not ever come back.

Moral is in the toilet. Last week when the layoff awards were announced many were very sad. The sad ones were the ones that kept their jobs. They are just waiting for the next round. The strong rumor is as soon as June or July. Many are hoping it comes as a buy out of the ATL hangar/shops by some one like LufthansaTeknic and or GE.

Most have zero confidence in our TechOps management. Every chance they can they seem to be screwing up. Until Tony Tailban and his crew are gone we feel there is no hope. Do to this feeling nobody is willing put forth much of an effort. Above and Beyond is a thing of the past.

Sorry for your news DALMD88. Uprooting your family is never fun but working BOSMLDL will be an improvement. They're good eggs up there. And, a supportive wife makes all the difference in the world. You made a good choice given the choices you had. Good luck.

When I posted this I was weeks off. Now Three days away. we will see. Yes CEO Joe at FL is hoping for an end to DL. Joe get up every morning looking in the mirror and says "How can I ***K Delta Today." but Air Tran cannot expand that fast. My bet is US, NW, Co will try to meet demand. Nw has only three banks of flights out of MEM. So four or Five should cover the Southern routes.

Don't read the book before it's written. As you say, there's still 3 days. I sincerely hope DL pulls through this one way or another, I've always had an affinity for the airline, and have always envied the top notch people that have made the DL flag respected worldwide.

DalMD88 and others, I wish the best for you and the future of your airline.
